Abstract: The anthraquinone sulphuration mixture treated comes from the preparation of anthraquinone- alpha -sulphonic acid by sulphurating anthraquinone in the presence of a metal catalyst comprising a carrier loaded with the metal. The sulphuration mixture is mixed with water and the mixture is treated with hydrogen to reduce a catalyst metal ion dissolved in the aqueous medium to the metal and depositing the metal on the catalyst carrier and for simultaneously converting the alpha -sulphurated anthraquinone into its leuco form. Unconverted anthraquinone and the metal catalyst in the form of the carrier loaded with the deposited metal are separated from the mixture and recovered. Finally, the alpha -sulphurated anthraquinone is oxidised from the leuco form to the anthraquinone form with simultaneous precipitation of the latter in the form of the alkali metal salt thereof. The alpha -sulphurated anthraquinone can be used as a starting material for blue colorants.
