Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain a recording medium which has recording density of a nanometer(nm) unit, large capacity and high density and is smooth and stable. SOLUTION: In the recording medium in which a recording layer is provided on an electrically conductive substrate, the recording layer is made of a self- organizing film formed by interaction between the substrate and an organic low molecular compound. As the organic low molecular compound, a compound, which has at least a functional group forming a network of a hydrogen-bonding type and a functional group forming a bond with an electrode layer substrate in the molecule, is preferably used and in particular, thiomalic acid or 3- mercaptopropionic acid is preferably used.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To enhance throughput and safety by using a polymer easy to degrade and evaporate in a silicon-contg. photosensitive layer and evaporating the unexposed part of the layer in an atmosphere kept under vacuum. CONSTITUTION: A silicon substrate 20 with a novolak resin film 21 and a silicon- contg. polymer film 22 deposited in order is set in a chamber. Gaseous oxygen is introduced into the chamber until a specified pressure of gaseous oxygen is attained and the surface of the silicon-contg. polymer film 22 is exposed with laser light 23. The polymer of the exposed part is degraded and reacts with oxygen in the chamber to form silicon oxide. The chamber is then evacuated to a specified pressure or below by a turbo-molecular pump, a mercury lamp 26 is allowed to act and the entire surface of the silicon-contg. polymer film 22 is irradiated with UV 27. The polymer of the unexposed part is degraded and evaporated in fragments 28 and only the oxidized silicon-contg. polymer film 25 remains on the novolak resin film 21.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an ultrathin organic film, by using a cyclodextrin derivative having a specified structural formula. CONSTITUTION:A cyclodextrin derivative represented by formula 1 (wherein R is a 4C or higher alkyl, X is a functional group bondable to at least two atoms, Y is hydrogen, an acyl or an ether group and n is an integer >=6). An ultrathin organic film can be prepared from this derivative by the following process. Namely, a thin film of said cyclodextrin derivative is formed on the surface of an aqueous solution and a solid substrate is allowed to pass through this film to deposit the cyclodextrin derivative thereon. Examples of said solid substrate include an ordinary glass plate, those formed by laminating monomolecular membranes of, e.g., stearic acid or arachic acid thereon, quartz, aluminum, calcium fluoride, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obviate the generation of dust and the rupture of films, etc., by subjecting thin films formed of org. molecules contg. arom. rings by using an LB method (Langmuir-Blodgette method) to a heat treatment to cause thermal decomposition polymn. thereby forming conductive or semiconductive thin films. CONSTITUTION:The thin films are formed of the org. molecules having the arom. rings by using the LB method. The thin films are then heat treated in a high vacuum or inert gaseous atmosphere to cause the thermal decomposition polymn., by which the org. thin films having both of a liquid crystal orienting function and a conductive or semiconductive function in combination are formed. The LB films obtd. in such a manner are used as liquid crystal oriented films 3. For example, two sheets of LB film accumulated substrates 4, 4 laminated with transparent electrodes 2 and the liquid crystal oriented films 3 successively on glass substrates 1 are disposed to face each other in such a manner that the immersion directions intersect orthogonally with each other and a spacer 5 is interposed therebetween to form a liquid crystal cell 6. A liquid crystal 7 is injected into the cell 6 and the cell is so formed that the electrodes 2 and 2 can be energized therebetween.

An electrically conductive ultrathin film is produced by forming an ultrathin film of the complex by Langmuir Blodgett method and oxidizing the film.

CONSTITUTION:A metal oxide supporting graphite plate is immersed as the anode in a soln. contg. pyrrole or thiophene and perchlorate or borofluoride, and electric current is supplied by a prescribed quantity (about 0.1-10C) to coat the graphite plate with a pyrrole or thiophene polymer film by electrolytic polymn. Thus, a metal oxide supporting graphite electrode is obtd. The electrode is advantageously applicable to the electrode oxidation reaction of aromatic hydrocarbon.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of a cell and to improve low-voltage driving, memory characteristic, etc., by preparing an electrochromic modifying electrode of a two-electron oxidation-reduction system formed of a chemically stable salt. CONSTITUTION:The compds. expressed by formulas I-IV are used for the electrochromic display device consisting of the electrolytic cell in which the electrode formed by modifying an org. compd. allowing a reversible change of the color by an electrochemical redox reaction is used as a working electrode. In formulas I-IV, X denotes respectively halogen, acetic acid, perchloric acid anion; R denotes an alkyl, acetyl group, aryl group, nitrogenous heterocylic group; R denotes a hydrogen atom., methoxy group; Ar, Ar' denote an aryl group, nitrogenous heterocylic group. The aryl group and the nitrogenous heterocylic group contain a condensed ring and substitution products of alkyl, methoxy, halogen, nitro, etc. The redox type org. compd. can be thereby fixed to the electrode surface and, therefore, the structure of the cell is simplified and the driving voltage is lowered.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the hyper thin film composed of an inclusion compd. of cyclodextrin and an org. molecule by incorporating a specific cyclodextrin derivative to the titled film. CONSTITUTION:The hyper thin film of the inclusion compd. of the cyclodextrin and the dye is formed by synthesizing a molecule which contains the cyclodextrin part as a hydrophilic group and a long chain hydrocarbon group as a hydrophobic group by substituting the primary alcohol part of the cyclodextrin with a functional group contg. the long chain hydrocarbon group, and by mixing an azo dye and said molecule in an org. solvent, and by spreading the obtd. mixture on the surface of water to form a stable monomolecular film composed of the cyclodextrin and the dye and the inclusion compd. thereof, and subsequently laminating said monomolecular film on a substrate. The hydrophobic group and the hydrophilic group which have an appropriate molecular volume and strength, and the balance thereof are important as the cyclodextrin derivative in order to form the stable monomolecular film on the surface of water. Said cyclodextrin derivative is shown by formula I wherein R is >=8C long chain hydrocarbon group, (n) is an integer of >=6.
