Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antiallergic agent having antimicrobial activities against fish diseases and antimicroalgal and antiallergic activities by make the agent include thiotropocin as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This antiallergic agent comprises thiotropocin, separated and collected from a cultured product prepared by culturing, e.g. a microorganism belonging to the genus Caulobacter (FERM BP-5080) in a culture medium under conditions of a pH within the range of 7.4-7.6, 10-35 deg.C temperature, 5-7 days, aeration spinner culture, etc., as an active ingredient. The method for administering the objective antiallergic agent is carried out by including 5-10% thiotoropocin in, e.g. lactose which is a formulation substrate, providing a powdery or a granular form, mixing the prepared formulation in a daily dose of 0.1-0.5g/kg body weight of fishes with a formula feed and administering the resultant formula feed to the fishes for 5-7 days.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel sterol derivative that is useful for producing vesicles of good stability. SOLUTION: This compound is a sterol derivative represented by the formula (n is 4-8; R and R' are each a sterol having OH in the 3β-position), typically α,ω-bis(cholesteryloxycarbonly)hexaethylene-glycol. The sterol derivative of the formula is prepared by reaction of an oligoethylene glycol and a sterol halognoformate. When vesicles are produced, the sterol derivative of the formula is mixed with a cation, or with a phospholipid, or with a long-chain aliphatic amine or with a surfactant. The vesicles prepared from this cholesterol derivative can include a variety of hydrophilic substances.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimocroalgal agent excellent in new kinds of bioactivity such as antimicrobial activity for fish diseases, antimicroalgal activity and antiallergic activity by using a specific seven-membered heterocyclic compound bearing a sulfur atom as the active ingredient. SOLUTION: This antimicroalgal agent uses thiotropocin obtained by use of a microorganism belonging to the genus Caulobacter and having the ability to produce thiotropocin as the active ingredient. The microorganism is represented by the strain of Caulobacter sp. PK-654 (National Institute of Bioscience and Human-Technology, reference No. FERM BP-5080). The concentration of the active ingredient is suitably 0.01-10wt.% in emulsions, wettable powders or oils and 0.1-10wt.% in granule or dust.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain thiotropocin useful as e.g. an antimicrobial agent for fish diseases, anti-fine algal agent, antiallergic agent, by culturing in a medium microbes belonging to Caulobacter and having ability to produce thiotropocin and by gathering the resultant product from the cultured product. SOLUTION: Microbes belonging to Caulobacter and capable of producing thiotropocin [e.g. Caulobacter sp. PK 654 strain (FERM BP-5080)] are inoculated into a medium followed by conducting a shaking culture at 20 deg.C for 5 days at 45rpm to obtain a seed culture fluid which is then inoculated into a medium- contg. triangular flask followed by conducting a culture at 20 deg.C for 5-7 days, and the resultant culture fluid is centrifuged to gather the resultant supernatant which is then filtered and subjected to column chromatography, and the resultant active fraction is recrystallized from methanol, thus efficiently affording the objective thiotropocin useful as an active ingredient of e.g. antimicrobial agents for fish diseases, anti-fine algal agents, antiallergic agents.
