Abstract: An Alpha , omega -glycol, a primary alcohol or an aliphatic compound having one or two secondary alcohol groups is dissolved in a solvent. The resulting solution is heated to 10* - 70*C and brought into contact with an ozone-containing gas. Then, the solution is elevated to 70* - 110*C and brought into contact with an oxygen-containing gas. By thus oxidizing the starting material, there is formed in the solution a dibasic acid or a fatty acid; the former acid occurs where the starting material being used is an Alpha , omega -glycol and the latter acid occurs where it is either a primary alcohol or an aliphatic compound having one or two secondary alcohol groups. The dibasic acid or fatty acid thus formed within the solution can be isolated by removing the solvent from the solution.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title derivative useful as a surfactant excellent in emulsifying power, dispersing power, chelating power, surface tension depressing power, corrosion-inhibiting power, antibacterial activity, etc., having a specified structural formula. CONSTITUTION:A cyclohexene ring-containing aliphatic derivative of formula I or II (wherein R and R' are each H or an alkyl) and glacial acetic acid are ozonized at 10-14 deg.C in the presence of an ozone/oxygen mixture, and the formed ozonide is decomposed and then oxidized to obtain a compound (a), which is an acid or a partial alkyl ester, of formula III (wherein n and n' are each 4-15, Y is H or COOR and R is H or a 1-18C alkyl, provided that at least one of them is H). Component (a) is esterified with a polyalkylene glycol (b) (PAG) of a degree of polymerization of 1-20 and the product is neutralized or saponified to obtain a tetra- or penta-carboxylic acid derivative of formula IV [wherein X is H or COOA, A is a PAG residue of formula V (wherein m is 2-4 and p is 1-20), H, a 1-18C alkyl, an alkali metal, or an (alkanol) ammonium ion, and at least one X is a PAG residue].

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for a dye for the dyeing of paper or pulp, in one step and high yield without using deadly poisonous phosgene, etc., by using easily available epoxide and carbon disulfide as raw materials and reacting the components in the presence of a base under high pressure. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula II can be produced by reacting an epoxide of formula I (R is alkyl or aryl; R is alkyl or H) with carbon disulfide in the presence of a base (e.g., triethylamine or pyridine) under high pressure. The reaction pressure is preferably as high as possible and is usually 500-9,000kg/cm . The reaction is carried out at room temperature -120 deg.C for usually 5-50hr. The reaction solvent is hexane, benzene, etc., and the compound of formula I is used in an amount nearly equimolar to the amount of the carbon disulfide.

Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:An amine salt of a tetra- or pentacarboxylic acid expressed by formula I [n and n' are 4-10; X is H or COOZ (Z is H, alkyl or substituted ammonium ion and at least one thereof is substituted ammonium ion)]. EXAMPLE:Pentamonoethanolamine salt of 1,9,10,12-octadecanepentacarboxylic acid. USE:An economical antistatic agent, having improved antistatic effect and good durability and low toxicity and capable of exhibiting effect in a low concentration. The agent has a wide range of solubility in water, oil and plastics, scarcely colors an object since it is colorless or light yellow and can be used for cloth, plastics, etc., by external coating, spraying or internal incorporation without trouble by harshness because of low foaming property. PREPARATION:An acid expressed by formula II (Y is H or COOH) is neutralized with an amine, e.g. aliphatic amine or aliphatic alkylolamine, etc., to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.

CONSTITUTION:A thiirane shown by the formula I (R is alkyl, aryl, or H; R and R are alkyl or H) is reacted with an active methylene compound shown by the formula II (R is alkyl; R is alkyl or alkoxy) in the presence of a base (e.g., sodium ethoxide) in a solution of an alkali catalyst (e.g., sodium hydride) in a solvent such as ethanol, etc., at room temperature or under heating to give the aimed compound shown by the formula III or formula IV. The compound shown by the formula I is easily synthesized from a corresponding epoxide by the use of thiourea or potassium thiocyanate and the compound shown by the formula II is inexpensively on the market and easily obtainable.
