    Abstract: A lead oxide-coated electrode for use in electrolysis is disclosed, which comprises a primary layer comprising platinum and/or palladium oxide, an intermediate layer comprising alpha -PbO2, and a coating layer comprising beta -PbO2 successively coated on a substrate comprising a corrosion resistant metal. The electrode has a strong and durable lead oxide coating firmly bonde d to the substrate, does not suffer from passivation, resistance increase, etc. and can be used stably for a long time at high current density. A process for producing the electrode is also disclosed.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a titanium base metallic material having an oxide film having a sufficient film thickness and firmly adhered to the titanium base metallic material being a base material and to provide a method for producing it. SOLUTION: This titanium base metallic material has a titanium oxide film having 10 to 150 μm thickness in at least a part of the surface. In the method for producing the titanium base metallic material having the titanium oxide film, the titanium base metallic material is heated in the air to form a titanium oxide film having >=5 μm thickness at least in a part of the surface of the material, and, thereafter, heating is executed by high-frequency induction heat plasma using an inert gas as a working gas.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a dense electrode having superior adhesion and a long service life and producing little internal strain during electrodeposition by successively forming an underlayer contg. Pt and Pd oxide, an intermediate layer of alpha-PbO2 and a coating layer of beta-PbO2 on a substrate of a corrosion resistant metal. CONSTITUTION:A plate, a porous plate, a bar or the like of a corrosion resistant metal such as Ti, Zr, Nb, Ta or an alloy thereof is used as a substrate. The surface of the substrate is preferably made uneven so as to increase the surface area. An underlayer contg. Pt and/or Pd oxide is formed on the surface of the substrate so as to protect the substrate and to improve the adhesion to an intermediate layer. In the underlayer, Pt is usually metallic but Pd is required to be oxide because metallic Pd has inferior corrosion resistance. An intermediate layer of alpha-PbO2 acting chiefly as a binder is the formed on the underlayer and a coating layer of beta-PbO2 is further formed on the intermediate layer. The coating layer has a great affinity for the intermediate layer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable production of a long-life electrode which is dense, has high adhesiveness and has decreases internal stress of electrodeposition by coating an underlying layer contg. Pt and Pd oxide, intermediate layer consisting of alpha-PbO2 and coating layer of beta-PbO2 contg. a fibrous material successively on a corrosion resistant metallic substrate. CONSTITUTION:A sheet, perforated sheet, etc., consisting of Ti, Zr, Nb, Ta, or the alloys thereof, etc., are used as the substrate and the sticking area is preferably increased by subjecting the surface thereof to a ruggedness forming treatment. The underlying layer contg. the Pt and/or Pd oxide for protecting the substrate and improving the adhesiveness to the intermediate layer is formed on the surface of such substrate. The intermediate layer consisting of the alpha-PbO2 to play mainly the role of connection is the formed thereon. Further, the beta-PbO2 coating layer contg. the granular or fibrous material which is electrochemically inert and has corrosion resistance is formed on the surface thereof. The effect of dispersing the internal stress of electrodeposition of the beta-PbO2 layer is obtd. by incorporating the above-mentioned granular or other material into the coating layer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a biocompatible implant material of which an affinity for a living body and an adhesive intensity are preferable by supplying apatite powders to a thermo-plasma reacting section and by spraying flames of a high- frequency induction thermo-plasma accompanied by the apatite generated from a torch onto a surface of a core. CONSTITUTION:A high-frequency plasma torch 8 is coaxially and vertically installed in the upper part of a cylindrical water-cooled chamber 9 and a high- frequency thermo-plasma is projected downward from the opening to the lower end of the torch 8. A water-cooled sample stand 11 which can move vertically and rotate around the axis as a center is installed just below a thermo-plasma generating section (reaction section) 10 in the torch 8 and a substrate (core) 12 is put on the stand 11. A temperature of the substrate 12 is measured by a thermo couple 13. Apatite hydroxide or apatite powders 16 are introduced to a powder feed pipe 7 of a high-frequency plasma generating apparatus by a carrier gas 17, thereby projecting the apatite onto the surface of the metal or ceramic substrate 12. The apatite whose grain size is equal to 100 to 200mum is used.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To electrochemically produce cyclohexanol or an ester thereof at a high conversion rate by adding a supporting electrolyte to a soln. of cyclohexane in a fatty acid and electrolyzing the resulting electrolytic soln. CONSTITUTION:Cyclohexane is dissolved in a fatty acid such as acetic acid and a supporting electrolyte consisting essentially of sulfuric acid and water is added. The resulting electrolytic soln. is electrolyzed at about 1.5-2.6V anode potential basing on the potential of a satd. calomel electrode. By the electrolysis, the cyclohexane is electrochemically oxidized on the surface of the anode to produce cyclohexanol. This cyclohexanol bonds nonelectrochemically to the fatty acid as a solvent, producing cyclohexyl ester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:When a gas diffusion electrode is manufactured by coating a reaction layer containing a catalyst laminatedly on a hydrophobic porous gas transmission layer provided with a collector, to make the manufacture of the electrode easy by using lead dioxide as the catalyst in the reaction layer. CONSTITUTION:A gas diffusion electrode is constructed with a hydrophobic porous gas transmission layer 1, a reaction layer 2 containing a material consisting of lead dioxide carried on carbon black, and a collector 3. As for the collector 3, a copper mesh of 32 in mesh number is used, and as for raw materials of the hydrophobic porous gas transmission layer 1 a mixture of powder composed of hydrophobic acetylene black mixed with 40wt.% of PTFE is used. As for raw materials of the reaction material containing a catalyst to be contacted to an electrolyte, a mixture of respective equal amounts of extra pure reagent lead dioxide powder containing 20wt.% of PTFE and hydrophobic acetylene black powder containing 30wt.% of PTFE is used. Thereby a gas diffusion electrode of high oxidation efficiency and hard to generate deactivation due to poison can be obtained.
