Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a bit error rate within minimum time. SOLUTION: Bit blocks are measured and the cumulative number of bit errors and a posterior cumulative distribution function (PCDF) are calculated in parallel concering the bit errors. Whether a bit error rate is smaller than a required bit error rate limit is determined by comparing the calculated value of the PCDF with a required value (probability). The measurement of bit blocks, the calculation of the cumulative value of related bit errors, the calculation of the PCDF and determination based on these measured values are continued until any one of three events is detected. The three events are an event (1) that the bit error rate is smaller than the required bit error rate limit, an event (2) that the bit error rate is the required bit error rate or more, and an event (3) that the longest test time has elapsed. A test is stopped after detecting these three events.

Abstract: The model-based method tests compliance of production devices with the performance specifications of a device design.
