Abstract:
Disclosed is a filled polyolefin composition comprising a blend of a 30-70wt.% of a first heterophasic polypropylene HECO1 and 70-30 wt.% of a second heterophasic polypropylene HECO2, the heterophasic copolymers differing in MFR and type of comonomers, in combination with glass fibers and optionally a compatibilizer. The filled polyolefin composition has a high fluidity in the molten state and a good balance of mechanical properties and finds use in injection molding applications.

Composition comprising (A) from 30 to 60 by weight, of a soft polyolefin composition comprising, 10-50 % by weight of a copolymer (a) of propylene, which copolymer contains from 1 to 8 % of comonomer content; 50-90 wt % of a copolymer (b) of ethylene and other alpha-olefin(s), containing from 57 to 80 % of ethylene; wherein the weight ratio of the content of copolymer component (b) to the fraction XS soluble in xylene at room temperature (about 25 °C), both (b and XS) referred to the total weight of (a) + (b), is of 1.5 or less, and the intrinsic viscosity [η] of the said XS fraction is of 3 dl/g or more; and the total quantity of copolymerized ethylene is preferably from 30 % to 65 % by weight; (B) from 5 to 30 wt % of a glass fiber filler; (C) from 0 to 5 % by weight of a compatibilizer; (D) from 10 to 40 by weight of a polypropylene component selected from propylene homopolymers, propylene copolymers containing up to 5 % by moles of ethylene and/or C 4 -C 10 α-olefin(s) and combinations of such homopolymers and copolymers, wherein the Melt Flow Rate, of the polypropylene component D) is generally from 0.3 to 2500 g/10 min.

The present disclosure provides a covering for a light-source comprising a polyolefin composition comprising: (A) 50-80% by weight, of a propylene polymer comprising up to and including 40% by weight, based on the weight of (A), of units deriving from ethylene and/or at least one alpha-olefin of formula CH2=CHR1, where R1 is a linear or branched C2-C8 alkyl; (B) 15-35% by weight of an elastomeric component selected from the group consisting of: (B1) ethylene copolymers with at least one alpha-olefin of formula CH2=CHR2, where R2 is a linear or branched C1-C8 alkyl, (B2) saturated or unsaturated styrene or alpha-methylstyrene block copolymers, and (B3) combinations thereof; (C) 5-30% by weight of glass fibers, and (D) 0-5.0% by weight of a compatibilizer, wherein the amounts of (A), (B), (C) and (D) are based on the total weight of (A)+(B)+(C)+(D), the total weight being 100%.

Disclosed is a filled polyolefin composition comprising a blend of a 20-50 wt.% of an heterophasic polypropylene (a), 10-25 wt.% of a propylene polymer (b) having MFR (ISO1133 230°C/2.16Kg) higher than 800 g/10 min., 5-35 wt.% of a propylene polymer (c) having MFR (ISO1133 230°C/2.16Kg) of 0.5-20 and a tensile modulus (ISO 527-1,-2) equal to or greater that 1000 MPa, 5-35 wt.% of glass fibers (d) and 0-5 wt.% of a compatibilizer (e). The filled polyolefin composition has a high fluidity in the molten state, good balance of mechanical properties and improved thermal properties. The filled composition finds use in injection molding applications.

The present invention concerns polypropylene compositions containing glass fiber fillers, having a high Melt Flow Rate (MFR) and a good balance of mechanical properties. In particular, the compositions of the present invention show excellent mechanical (high stiffness and ductility) and thermal properties (low shrinkage), while displaying a boost of the final MFR, notwithstanding the presence of glass fibers
