Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for protecting a pressure reactor from failures caused by contamination while carrying out a reaction with a medium in a gas state or supercritical state. SOLUTION: In this method for metering, introducing a medium in a gas state or supercritical state to a pressure reactor 1, the pressure rector 1 has a reaction chamber 13 connected to a stirrer dome 5 via a feeder. A preliminarily determined volume flow or mass flow of the medium is introduced to the pressure reactor 1 so that a pressure in the stirrer dome 5 becomes larger than a pressure in the reaction chamber 13. The apparatus meters, introduces the medium in a gas state or supercritical state.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for metering a medium which is gaseous or in the supercritical state, into a pressure reactor (1). The pressure reactor has a reaction chamber (13) which is connected to a stirrer dome into which the medium is metered at a predetermined volume flow or mass flow in such a way that the pressure in the stirrer dome becomes greater than the pressure in the reaction chamber. This prevents reactive mixtures from diffusing from the reaction chamber into the cavity. The invention also relates to uses of the method. For example, it can be used for purging the pressure reactor, for protecting the stirrer drive, for cooling or heating the contents of the reaction chamber, for regulating the reaction rate, for metering a reactant into the reaction chamber and for controlled charging or pressure release of the pressure reactor. The invention also relates to an apparatus for metering a medium which is gaseous or in the supercritical state.

Abstract: A continuous process for the prodn. of expanded polyolefin particles (I) comprises suspending the polymer particles in a dispersion medium, impregnating with a volatile blowing agent under elevated pressure and then discharging the impregnated particles into a low-pressure space. The impregnation stage is carried out in a screw machine. Pref. the polyolefin is a copolymer of propylene (P) with 0.5-15 wt.% ethylene (E) and/or 4-8C alpha -olefin, or a copolymer of ethylene with 3-18 wt.% 4-10C alpha -olefin. The blowing agent is propane, butane, pentane, hexane, CO2 or a mixt. thereof.
