    Abstract: Process for producing plain foils from poly-epsilon-caprolactam or from its copolymers contg. >70% caprolactam, by extruding the melt over a fishtail die onto a cooling roller and drawing off the faoil formed, takes place by (i) using a polycaprolactam having relative viscosity 2.4-3.3 (2.5-2.8) and which contains 0.0005-0.5(0.001-0.01)% crystalline Mg silicates of particles size 30 mu, evenly and finely distributed, and (2) drawing off the melt leaving fishtail die at a drawing-off rate >30 (esp. >50)m/min. from cooling roller to a foil having thickness 50 mu. The foils can be used e.g., as packaging matl. Foils (i) have outstanding props. in use and processing, e.g., behaviour in machines for further processing; high speed of drawing off allows quick processing rates, and foils are easily lined, laminated and printed; (ii) are highly transparent and bright; (iii) process can be carried out at lower melting temps. than with standard high mol. wt. polyamides, thus reducing formation of decompsn. prodts. and cleaning intervals of machine parts.

    Abstract: Terpolymers which have Fikentscher K-values of from 8 to 100 and comprise 50 mole percent of maleic anhydride units, from 35 to 45 mole percent of 2,4,4'-trimethylpent-1-ene units and from 5 to 15 mole percent of 2,4,4'-trimethylpent-2-ene units, and processes for their preparation by polymerizing 50 parts by weight of maleic anhydride, from 35 to 180 parts by weight of 2,4,4'-trimethylpent-1-ene and from 0.6 to 6 parts by weight of 2,4,4'-trimethylpent-2-ene per part by weight of 2,4,4'-trimethylpent-1-ene employed, in the presence of a free-radical initiator at from 60 DEG to 200 DEG C. and a pressure of from 1 to 20 bar, and separating the terpolymers from the unconverted monomers.
