Abstract: Preparation of N-substituted cyclic amines of formula (I) comprises reacting primary amines of formula R NH2 (II) with diols of formula HO-A-OH (III) in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst containing copper obtained by impregnating an inert support with an aqueous solution of an ammine complex of a Cu compound (IV) that readily undergoes thermal decomposition, then drying and calcining to give a catalyst containing 5-50 wt.% Cu, calculated as oxide.
