Abstract: Storage-stable, liquid, only slightly colored polyisocyanates possessing carbodiimide groups and having an isocyanate content of from about 25 to 35% by weight, based on total weight; these products are obtained by condensing polyisocyanates in the presence of phospholines, phospholidines and/or their oxides, and stopping the condensation and stabilizing the condensation products with the Lewis acids, aromatic carboxylic acid halides, aromatic sulfonic acid esters and/or alkyl sulfates.

Abstract: (Cellular)polyurethanes are prepd. from a mixt. of A) >=1 polyisocyanate, B) >=1 polyhydroxy cpd. of mol. wt. 500-7,000 chosen from polyether-and polyester-polyols and opt. D) other conventional additives, the novelty being that a polymer (C) is included in the mixt.; C) is the reaction prodt. of a polymer contg. >=1 gp. capable of (trans)esterification and a polyhydroxy cpd. chosen from polyester- or polyether-polyols of mol. wt. 200-7,000 with formation of at least a partial ester like bond. Polymers contg. covalently bonded polyhydroxy cpds., useful in polyurethane chemistry are easily obtd. cf. prior art where either a) polyhydroxy cpds. and polyisocyanates were reacted or b) in situ free radical graft polymers contg. polyetherpolyols grafted over C-C bonds were used. Physical props. e.g., load capacity and low temp. flexibility are also improved. As flexible or rigid, foams, elastomers or coatings. The foams may be used as shoe soles, or in the automobile industry.

Abstract: This invention relates to an urethane group containing polyisocyanurate foam produced from a polyisocyanate and a polyhydroxy compound, wherein the polyhydroxy compound is the reaction mixture of a hydroxyl group containing amine which is at least difunctional and is selected from the group consisting of a secondary amine, a tertiary amine, and a mixture thereof, and a naphthenic acid, or a mixture of said reaction mixture and a conventional polyol, the reaction conditions are a temperature between 0 DEG C. and 150 DEG C. and an amino equivalent to carboxylic equivalent of 0.3:1 to 50:1.

D) other conventional additives, the novelty being that a polymer (C) is included in the mixt.; C) is an alkoxylated polymer prepd. by reacting 0.1-120 mol. ethylene oxide per mol. of gp. capable of being alkoxylated in (C). Polymers contg. covalently bonded polyhydroxy cpds. are easily obtd. cf. prior art in which either (a) polyhydroxy cpd. and polyisocyanates were reacted or (b) in situ free radical graft polymers contg. polyether-polyols grafted over C-C bonds were used. The polyurethanes have better load capacity, tensile, strength, compression set, and tear strength. Foams with low temp. flexibility may be prepd. with proper choice of (C). As flexible or rigid foams, elastomers or coatings. The foams may be used for upholstery, shoe soles, crash pads, etc.

Abstract: Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers, esp. linear organosoluble, polyurethane elastomers are prepd. continuously by reacting polyhydroxy cpds., diisocyanates, and low mol. wt. chain extenders in a multi-screw extruder. The components are introduced directly and separately in measured amts. into the inlet zone of the extruder, and a temp. profile is maintained in the extruder, this ranging from 240 degrees C in the inlet zone to 190 degrees C at the extrusion die. Economic prodn. of prods. having a very uniform quality is possible. These can be easily obtd. in the form of granules, profiles, tubes and cable sheaths. The prod. is soluble in org. solvents, and the solns. are suitable for coating purposes. The granules can be processed by most methods used for thermoplasts, e.g. extrusion, injection moulding and calendering.
