Abstract: Microencapsulation of dispersed core material involves polycondensation of a melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin mixture comprising: (a) an aqueous solution of a condensate of: (a1) 1 mole melamine; (a2) 2-5 mole formaldehyde; (a3) 0-0.5 mole melamine derivative; and (a4) 1-5 mole 1-3 carbon (C) alkanol; and (b) 0.01-1 mole water-soluble primary, secondary or tertiary amine or ammonia. In the production of microcapsules by polycondensation of a melamine-formaldehyde resin mixture in water, in which the capsule core material is dispersed, in the presence of an anionic protective colloid, the resin mixture comprises: (a) an aqueous solution of a condensate of: (a1) 1 mole melamine; (a2) 2-5 mole formaldehyde (HCHO); (a3) 0-0.5 mole melamine derivative capable of addition or condensation reaction with HCHO; and (a4) 1-5 mole 1-3 carbon (C) alkanol; and (b) 0.01-1 mole water-soluble primary, secondary or tertiary amine or ammonia. Independent claims are also included for: (a) microcapsules produced by this method; and (b) a melamine-HCHO resin mixture of the above composition.

Microcapsules (I) are produced by condensation of melamine-formaldehyde resins and/or their methyl ethers in water, in which the water insoluble capsule forming material is dispersed, in the presence of an anionic protective colloid at pH 3-6.5 and 20-50 degrees C followed by hardening of the capsule wall at 50-100 degrees C. Prior to the hardening 10-200 wt.% urea, (w.r.t. melamine formaldehyde resin) optionally bound with an ethylene or propylene bridges is added. An Independent claim is included for a pressure sensitive recording system that contains the microcapsules (I).

Las microcápsulas se preparan añadiendo urea a una dispersión de melamina-formaldehído antes de endurecer. Las microcápsulas (I) se producen por condensación de resinas de melamina-formaldehído y/o sus métilesteres en agua, donde se dispersa el material formador d cápsula insoluble en agua, en presencia de un coloide protector aniónico con un pH de entre 3 y 6.5 y entre 20 y 50ºC seguido dl endurecimiento de las pared de la cápsula entre 50 y 100ºC. Antes del endurecimiento se añade entre 10 y 200 % en peso de urea (w-r-t resina de melanina-formaldehído) opcionalmente enlazada con puentes de etileno o puentes de propileno. Se incluye una reivindicación independiente para un sistema de grabación sensible a la presión que contiene las microcápsulas.
