Abstract: Cellulosic fibrous material is coloured or printed with non-metallic pigments (i.e. pigments which do not behave as free metal or metal alloys) by treating the material in the absence of strongly anionic substances with a) an aqueous solution, emulsion or suspension of a salt or quaternary ammonium compound of a polymer or copolymer of a vinylinidazole and with b) an aqueous non-metallic pigment dispersion containing a cation-active nonionic or weakly anion-active dispersing agent the treatment with the non-metallic pigment being simultaneous with or subsequent to treatment with the vinylinidazole compounds.

Abstract: 1,173,043. Photo-polymerizable processes for producing printing plates. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA FABRIK A.G. March 21, 1967 [March 22, 1966], No.13169/67. Heading G2C. Printing plates are produced by imagewise exposing a material which contains 30 to 75% of a synthetic polyamide and 70 to 25% of a photopolymerizable composition comprising a monomer containing at least two polymerizable carbon to carbon double bonds or a mixture of monomers at least one of which has two polymerizable double bonds, and the monomer or one of the monomers having at least one double bond and an alcoholetherified N-methylolamide group, a photoinitiator and/or a thermal polymerization inhibitor and developing by removing the unexposed areas with a solvent. The specified photo-polymerizable compounds are the N-methylolacrylamide bis-ether of ethylene glycol and the alkyl ether of N-methylolacrylamide. Preferred N-methylol ethers are N-methylol ethers of compounds of following formulae:- wherein R 1 is alkylene with up to six carbon atoms and R 2 is hydrogen or methyl.

Abstract: A pigment binder suitable for dyeing and printing processes consists of a mixture of a polymer bearing halohydrin groups in side chains and a compound containing at least two epoxy groups in the molecule. From 0.025 to 0.5 part by wt. of the polyepoxide is used per part of the polymer. The polymer may be an aqueous emulsion polymer containing 0.5 to 30% by wt. of an acrylic or methacrylic ester which contains a halohydrin group in the ester radical and from 95.5 to 70% by wt. of one or more comonomers. The epoxy compounds used may be glycidyl ethers of polyols containing halohydrin groups. Pigment dyeing or printing is carried out by curing the composition. The composition may also contain a vat, sulphur or reactive dye and/or a coupling agent.ALSO:A pigment binder suitable for pigment printing processes is a mixture of a polymer bearing halohydrin groups in side chains and a compound containing at least two epoxy groups in the molecule (e.g. a glycidyl ether of a diol or polyol). From 0.025 to 0.5 parts by wt. of the polyepoxide are used per part of the polymer. The pigment printing composition may also contain a vat, sulphur or reactive dye and/or a coupling agent. Examples relate to the printing of cotton, cotton/polyester and glass fabrics. The printed fabrics may be dried, e.g. at 50 DEG C. and the printing fixed by curing, e.g. for 5 minutes at 140 DEG C. in hot air.

Abstract: Glass fibres are dyed or printed with pigments using as a binder a film-forming polymer which becomes cross-linked under the influence of a proton-acceptor and using an amino-silane or a hydrocarbon wax as an agent having hydrophobic action to promote adhesion between the binder and the glass surface, the process being carried out in the presence of a proton-acceptor, and the treated fibres being finally dried and heated. The polymers are those having groups, for example amino or hydroxy groups, which by means of proton acceptors can enter into covalent bonds with themselves or other groups. The preferred polymers are copolymers bearing hydrocarbon radicals as side chains in which a halogen atom and a hydroxyl group are attached to two adjacent carbon atoms, particularly a polymer obtained by co-polymerising 2-hydroxy-3-chloropropyl acrylate with other monomers. The proton-acceptor may be an alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate or bicarbonate, amonia or an organic amine; it may be provided as the alkali present in the glass. The glass fibres may be treated as such, mixed with other fibres or in the form of fabric. In the treatment, the various components can be applied separately or in combination. Examples illustrate the use of copper phthalocyanine, azo dyes and carbon black as the pigments.
