[Also in Division C3] Photo-crosslinkable compositions for use in the production of relief-bearing plates, sheets or films comprise (a) a highly polymerised substance, (b) at least one monomer having at least two photo-polymerisable double bonds or a mixture thereof with at least one monomer having only one photopolymerisable double bond, (c) 0À01-10% by weight of the total composition of a photo-initiator, and (d) as a polymerisation inhibitor, a N-nitroso hydroxylamine derivative of the formula where R is a monovalent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical having up to 18 carbon atoms, X is H, a metal atom, or an unsubstituted or substituted ammonium radical, and n denotes a number equivalent to the valency of X. The relief-bearing image is produced by exposing a layer of the composition to light imagewise and then washing with a suitable solvent to remove the unexposed areas. Component (a) may be a polyamide or a cellulose derivative, e.g. cellulose acetate, and the initiator (c) may be diacetyl, benzil, benzoin, benzoin methyl ether, α-methylbenzoin or phenanthraquinone. The monomer with at least two double bonds may be a di- or poly-(meth)acrylate of a polyhydric alcohol or phenol, a bis- or poly(meth) acrylamide derivative of a di- or poly-amine or other compound containing two or more -NH- groups. The reliefbearing articles can be used as printing plates and for the production of fluid control devices. In examples, the photo-crosslinkable layers are adhered to an aluminium support.
