    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject foam having lowered thermal conductivity and good handleability, etc., and useful as an insulation material for composite element, etc., by adding graphite to an organic polyisocyanate, etc., and a compound having reactive hydrogen atom and reacting the mixture in the presence of a foaming agent, etc. SOLUTION: The objective foam useful for filling the hollow space of a refrigeration apparatus or a heating element is produced by reacting (A) an organic polyisocyanate and/or a modified organic polyisocyanate (e.g. diphenylmethane diisocyanate) with (B) one or more kinds of compounds having >=2 reactive hydrogen atoms (e.g. polyether polyol) in the presence of (C) a foaming agent, (D) a catalyst and optionally (E) an assistant and/or an additive.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expandable rubber-modified styrene polymer showing improved elasticity recovery, by incorporating a low-boiling blowing agent in a polymer mixture comprising a continuous phase of a styrene copolymer and rubber particles dispersed therein and comprising a butadiene/styrene block copolymer, and having a lamella structure free from polystyrene. SOLUTION: The expandable styrene polymer contains desirably 85-93 wt.% polystyrene or styrene copolymer (containing up to 50 wt.%, desirably up to 80 wt.% comonomer). The polystyrene contains a small amount (0.005-0.05 mol based on the styrene) of a crosslinking agent to be copolymerized. The expandable styrene polymer is desirably one containing 5-30 wt.% butadiene/styrene block copolymer in the polymer mixture and dispersed in the polystyrene phase in the form of particles. The ratio of the average length 1 of the rubber particles to the average thickness d is desirably above 5/1. The mixture contains 2-15 pts.wt., based on the composition, low-boiling blowing agent.

    Abstract: An expandable rubber modified styrene polymer (I) comprises (A) a continuous phase of polystyrene or a styrene comonomer containing up to 50 wt.% comonomer (B) 5-30 wt.% (w.r.t. polymer mixture) of dispersed rubber particles and (C) 2-15 pts.wt. (w.r.t. 100 pts wt. polymer mixture) of a low binding blowing agent. The rubber particles consists of a butadiene/styrene block copolymer having a compact lamella structure without polystyrene inclusions. Also claimed are: (i) a process for the production of (I) by dissolving (B) in (A) followed by polymerisation of the monomers and processing to a granular form whereby (C) is added during or after polymerisation.
