Abstract: Diesel fuels based on ethanol, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether (EGME) and/or polyethylene glycol monoethyl ethers contg. 2-4 CH2CH2O units, contain triethylammonium nitrate (I) in amt. sufficient to improve their cetane number. Addn. of (I) in amts. of 1-25wt.% increases the cetane number to >=27 for ethanol, >=24 for EGME, >=71 for triethylene glycol monoethyl ether (TGME), and >=31 for their mixts.

Abstract: Diesel fuels consist of (a) a petroleum middle distillate, suitable on its own as a diesel fuel (pref. at least 60 vol.%), (b) a smaller concn. of methanol (pref. 10-25 vol.%), and (c) aliphatic 6-20C (9-11C) alcohols, opt. etherified (pref. 5-15% of an alcohol liquid at ambient temp.). Component (c) acts as solvent for (a) and (b). The fuels make it possible to use in diesel engines at least some methanol (which can be made through synthesis gas from non-oil sources. The addn. of C gives homogeneous mixts. of relatively good ignitability.

Abstract: Diesel fuels consisting of (a) a petroleum middle distillate, suitable as a diesel fuel (pref. at least 60 vol.%); (b) a smaller concn. of ethanol (pref. 10-25 vol.%); and (c) 5-20C (9-11C) aliphatic alcohols, opt. etherified (pref. 5-15 vol.% of a 8-18C alcohol, liq. at ambient temp.). Component (c) acts as solvent for (a) and (b). The fuels make it possible to use at least some ethanol (a plant-derived prod.) in diesel engines (low ignitability prevents its use alone. Component (c) makes the mixt. less sensitive to phase sepn. by water addn. and improves the cold stability. The ignitability is relatively good.

Abstract: Isobutene polymers having a mean degree of polymerization P of from 10 to 100 and a proportion E of double bonds, capable of reaction with maleic anhydride, of from 60 to 90%, where E=100% corresponds to the calculated theoretical value for the case where each molecule of the isobutene polymer contains such a reactive double bond.

Abstract: Mineral lubricating oil compositions which contain a predominant proportion of a mineral lubricating oil together with a pour point depressant based on alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate polymers and a viscosity index (VI) improver comprising a special selectively hydrogenated copolymer of styrene and a conjugated diene. The VI improver employed is a selectively hydrogenated, random butadiene-styrene copolymer containing from 35 to 45% by weight of styrene and possessing a particular structure and distribution of the monomers. The compositions exhibit high stability to shear and may therefore in particular be used for lubricating I.C. engines or gearboxes.

Abstract: The basic patent (DE2909565) specified the use of triethylammonium nitrate as a cetane number improver in diesel fuels consisting essentially of ethanol and/or ethylene oxide derivs. The present patent in addition specifies mixts. of triethyl- and diethylammonium nitrates and, if necessary, monoethyl ammonium nitrate for the same purpose. Use of the nitrates and the finished fuel are both claimed. The di- and triethyl derivs. pref. together constitute at least 70wt.% of the mixt. of ethylammonium nitrates, and this mixts. Pref. constitutes 15-25wt.% of the fuel.

Abstract: The use of polyethers of formula (I) and/or acetals of formula (II) as diesel fuels, opt. in combination with =45 vol. % ethanol and/or methanol, =30 vol. % water and/or =85 vol. % mineral diesel oil, is claimed. (where A is ethylene or 1,2-propylene; R1 is 1-8C alkyl; R2 is H or 1-4C alkyl; n = 1-5; R3 is H or 1-12C alkyl; R4 is Me or et; m = 0-5). (I) and (II) have high cetane nos. (e.g. 18-80), so that fuels with a relatively high alcohol and water content can be produced. The fuels produce very little pollutant emission and have better low-temp. stability than conventional diesel oils.
