Method for the production of cyclohexene derivatives of formula (I) or (II), which comprises reduction of alkyne compounds of formula (III) or (IV) with a reducing agent selected from salts of dithionous acid and/or hydroxymethanesulfinic acid. R = a group of formula (A), (B), (C) or (D); R = OH or a protecting group which can be converted into a hydroxyl group by hydrolysis; R , R = H or 1-4C alkyl; and R = H or 1-4C acyl.
