Abstract: Water-soluble copolymers which consist of from 40 to 90% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids of 3 to 5 carbon atoms, from 60 to 10% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids of 4 to 8 carbon atoms and/or of the corresponding dicarboxylic acid anhydride and, if required, not more than 15% by weight, based on the total weight of the carboxyl-containing monomers, of one or more carboxyl-free monomers, and which are esterified with from 2 to 60% by weight, based on the total weight of the carboxyl-containing monomers, of one or more compounds which contain a terminal hydroxyl group and one or more alkylene oxide groups of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, the preparation of such water-soluble copolymers and their use as assistants in detergents, cleansing and dishwashing agents.

Abstract: Use of mixtures of (A) emulsions of C14- to C20-dialkylketenes and (B) fine-particulate polymer dispersions which contain copolymerised nitrogen-containing monomers and which are prepared by a two-stage polymerisation, in which, in the first polymerisation stage of the type of a solution copolymerisation, a low-molecular amphoteric prepolymer is prepared and, after dilution with water, nonionic, ethylenically unsaturated monomers are polymerised in this polymer solution in the second polymerisation stage in the manner of an emulsion polymerisation, 0.1 to 20 parts by weight of (B) being used per 1 part by weight of (A) - each relative to the solids content - as a paper size.

Abstract: Pigment printing pastes based on oil-in-water emulsions contain as water-soluble thickening agent 0.02-1 wt.% polyethylene glycol ether deriv. (I) of formula RO-(CH2CH2O)n 2A (where R is 12-22C alkyl; A is a diisocyanate residue; n is 60-400) (I) is prepd. by reacting aromatic diisocyanate corresp. to A, in form of >=90% soln. in N-methyl pyrrolidone (II) with the corresp polyethylene glycol ether deriv. Reaction prod. is non-pasty, and has relatively low viscosity and light colour. Pastes are used esp. for printing, cotton, rayon and other natural and synthetic fibres. (II) can be allowed to remain in the prod. as it does not affect the paste.
