Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten cooling time of a dispersion or a liq. after deodorizing treatment, to prevent a film which brings adhesion, piling and/or clogging of an apparatus during cooling treatment from being formed in case of a polymer- contg. dispersion and to simplify simultaneously a complicated structure of the apparatus. SOLUTION: Steam is passed through a dispersion or a liq. to be cooled and held in a treating container 1 and the dispersion or the liq. is whipped as the result (a) and this air bubble is discharged from the top part of the treating container 1 and it is fed into a vacuum separating container 4 through a nozzle and the air bubble is exploded during it (b) and steam formed from the air bubble is condensed by means of a heat exchanger 3 and volatile org. components are simultaneously removed (c) and exploded air bubble is returned to the container (d) and the processes (a) to (d) are performed until the dispersion or the liq. is deodorized to a required extent.

Abstract: Post-polymerisation reduction of the residual monomer content of a liquid solution, mixture, melt, suspension or dispersion obtained by free radical polymerisation is effected by adding a redox initiator system at a suitable temperature, the liquid in the reactor being mixed for the least possible time and at least one of the components of the initiator being added gradually to the liquid for a dose time which is 10-250 times the mixing time of the liquid.

Abstract: A method for cooling dispersions or liquids (D/L) after a deodorising process comprising (a) passing steam through the D/L in a boiler (1), causing it to foam, (b) taking the foam from the top of the boiler into an evacuated separator (4) through a jet (5) and thus breaking the foam, (c) condensing the water vapour from the foam in a heat exchanger (8) and removing organic volatiles, and (d) returning the broken foam to (1). This process is continued until the D/L is deodorised to the required extent, then the hot D/L is cooled by transferring it from the bottom of (1) to the evacuated separator (4) via jet (5), the water vapour produced is condensed in (8) as before, and the cooled D/L is taken off at the bottom of (4).

Abstract: Bonded fibre material (I) comprises (A) 5-50 wt. % aq. dispersion (binder) with disperse phase contg. (A1) 30-90 wt. % conjugated diene (w.r.t. dry phase), (A2) 0-50 wt. % copolymerisable alpha, beta-unsatd. mono- or di-carboxylic acid or amide, ester or nitrile, vinyl ester and/or cinyl-aromatic monomer and (A3) 3-20 wt. % olefinic comonomer with OH gp.(s), (B) 50-95 wt. % normal non-bonded fibre fabric with softening pt. above 320 deg. C and opt. (C) other resins, waxes or bitumen; (I) is obtd. by treating material (B) with a liq. contg. (A) at pH below 8, drying at 170 deg. C or above and opt. applying (C). Pref. disperse phase in (A) is a copolymer with Tg below 0 deg. C, derived from 40-85 wt. % (A1) (pref. butadiene, isoprene and/or chloroisoprene), 0-50 wt. % mono- or di-acid or derivs. as above and/or styrene (A2) (pref. (meth)acrylic acid or derivs. thereof and/or styrene) and 5-15 wt. % (A3) hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA), hydroxypropyl acrylate (HPA) and/or butanediol monoacrylate (HBA); impregnating liq. has pH below 5, with pref. solids content 10-30 wt. %, and drying temp. is at least 180 deg. C. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is useful for the prodn. of roofing strip (claimed). The invention provides bonded fibre material with thermal stability equiv. to that of materials based on dispersions contg.
