Abstract:
According to a paper, paperboard and cardboard internal sizing process, resin size is used, as well as cationic polymers containing polymerized vinylamine units as fixing agents for the resin size.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the use of water-soluble copolymers consisting of such characteristic structural elements as a) acrylic acid amide of the general formula (I), where R et R stand, independently of each other, for H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, and b) units of the general formula (II), where A represents a chemical bond or an alkyl group, the R residues stand, independently of each other, for H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or arakyl or, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are linked, an aromatic or non aromatic five to seven member heterocyclic ring, possibly mono- or polysubstituted, possibly containing one or two more heteroatoms chosen from among O, N or S, and capable of being annelated with another aromatic or non aromatic five to seven member ring, and R represents H, alkyl or aralkyl. The invention also pertains to cosmetics containing said polymers. 00000
Abstract:
Proposed is the use, as agents for increasing the dry strength of paper, card and cardboard, of partially hydrolysed polymers of N-vinyl carboxylic acid amides obtained by the homopolymerization of N-vinyl carboxylic acid amides of the formula (I) in which R and R are H or C1-C6 alkyl and by splitting off 0.5 to 95 mole % of the groups of the formula (II) in which R is H or C1-C6 alkyl.

Date Sep. 28, 1995Graft polymers which contain N-vinyl units and in which the grafting base is a polymer which contains in each case at least 5% by weight of units of the formulae (I) (II) where R1 and R2 are each H or C1-C6-alkyl, monoethylenically unsaturated monomers are grafted onto the grafting base in a weight ratio of from 100:1 to 1:100, and which have K values of at least 7 (determined according to H. Fikentscher in 5% strength by weight aqueous solution at 25 DEG C. and pH 7), are prepared by polymerization of monoethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of polymers which in each case contain at least 5% by weight of units of the formulae I and/or II as the grafting base in a weight ratio of from 100:1 to 1:100, and are used as dispersants for pigments, as additives for detergents and cleaning agents, and strength agents for paper and as soil stabilizers and for fertilizer compaction.
Abstract:
Graft polymers are obtainable by free radical polymerization of (A) monomers or monomer mixtures comprising (a) from 1 to 100% by weight of N-vinylcarboxamides of the formula (see formula I) where R1 and R2 are each H or C1-C6-alkyl, (b) from 0 to 99% by weight of other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers copolymerizable with the monomers (a) and (c) from 0 to 5% by weight of monomers having at least two ethylenically unsaturated, nonconjugated double bonds in the molecule, in the presence of (B) polymers which contain units of vinyl esters of saturated C1-C4-carboxylic acids and/or vinyl alcohol units, or of mixtures which contain these polymers and polymers having at least 3 alkylene oxide units or polytetrahydrofuran, in a weight ratio (A):(B) of from 95:5 to 10:90 and, if required, subsequent elimination of the group

Abstract:
Use of copolymers which are obtainable by copolymerization of a) from 5 to 99 mol% of N-vinylcarboxamides, b) from 95 to 1 mol% of monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids and/or the alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium or amine salts thereof and, if required, c) up to 30 mol% of other monoethylenically unsaturated com- pounds and, if required, d) up to 2 mol% of crosslinking agents and subsequent partial or complete elimination of the formyl groups from the N-vinylcarboxamides polymerized in the copolymer, with formation of amino or ammonium groups, are used as additives to paper stock for increasing the drainage rate and the retention in papermaking and the dry and wet strength of the paper.
