Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid water-based dye preparation excellent in water resistance and light resistance and desirable for the production of writing inks or printing colorants by mixing a dye with carbon black and polyethylene glycol. SOLUTION: This preparation comprises 0.1-15wt.%, based on the weight of the preparation, dye comprising 90-100wt.% dye represented by the formula (Kat is a metallic ion or an ammonium ion), 1-40wt.% carbon black having a particle size of 13-100nm, 0.1-15wt.% polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of 300-9,000 and the balance of water. This preparation is diluted with water or a mixture comprising water and a water-miscible organic solvent to obtain an ink. It is diluted with a 1-4C alkanol optionally together with water, and the diluted preparation is optionally mixed with a binder to obtain a colorant for a water-based alcoholic coating material or for printing.

Abstract: The invention relates to the use of benzaldehydes of the formula (I), in which ring A can be benzo-anellated and R , R and R are hydrogen, hydroxy, C1-C15 alkyl, C1-C15 alkoxy, cyano, nitro or a radical of the formula NR R or COOR , in which R is hydrogen or possibly substituted C1-C15 alkyl, R is possibly substituted C1-C15 alkyl or a radical of the formula L-NX X , in which L is C2-C8 alkylene and X and X are mutually independently C1-C6 alkyl or, together with the nitrogen atom bonding them, a heterocyclic radical, and R is hydrogen, possibly substituted C1-C15 alkyl or a radical of the formula L-NX X , in which L, X and X have the above meanings, as marking agents for hydrocarbons, a process for detecting these benzaldehydes in hydrocarbons and hydrocarbons containing the above benzaldehydes.

Abstract: Aqueous dye formulations contain 0.1-15 wt.% dye, of which 90-100 wt% is an anionic disazo dye, which is a 4,4'-bis(7-amino-1-hydroxy-3-sulpho-naphthyl-2-azo)-stilbene-2,2'-disu lphonate salt of formula (I), 1-40 wt.% carbon black and 0.1-15 wt.% polyethylene glycol (PEG); in which Kat = the equivalent of a metal or ammonium ion. Also claimed are inks containing the formulation, water and optionally water-miscible organic solvent and aqueous-alcoholic varnish colours or printing inks containing the formulation, water and 1-4 carbon alkanol(s).

Abstract: Photostable microcapsules, with a shell and core, have a core containing 10-90 wt.% dialkyl phthalate of formula (I), 9-89 wt.% high-boiling hydrocarbon (II), 1-10 wt.% triarylmethane leuco dye and 0-10 wt.% normal light stabiliser. In the formulae, R , R = 1-20 carbon (C) alkyl, optionally substituted by phenyl or 1-4 C alkyl-phenyl; R = R , hydrogen (H) or 1-4 C alkoxy. Also claimed is pressure-sensitive carbonless copying paper coated with these microcapsules. Preferably the core contains 4-90 wt.% (I), 9-59 wt.% (II) and 1-10 wt.% leuco dye; or 10-50 wt.% (I), 40-88.9 wt.% (II), 1-10 wt.% leuco dye and 0.1-8 wt.% light stabiliser.

Abstract: Method for detecting marked mineral oils by treating the marked mineral oil with an extractant comprising water, a solvent and a base comprises using as marker an azo dye of the formula where ring A may be benzofused, m is from 1 to 4, X1 is hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, cyano or nitro, X2 is hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, cyano, nitro, C1-C4-alkoxy or C1-C16-alkoxycarbonyl, X3 is hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, cyano or C1-C16-alkoxycarbonyl, and X4 is hydrogen, hydroxyl, substituted or unsubstituted C1-C8-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, amino, C1-C4-dialkylamino or substituted or unsubstituted C1-C16-monoalkylamino, as solvent a partially or completely water-miscible organic solvent, and as base an alkali or alkaline earth metal hydroxide, an alkali metal carbonate or a quaternary ammonium hydroxide, the use of azo dyes as markers for mineral oils, and novel azo dyes.
