Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing 3-pentenic acid esters by carbonylation of alkoxybutenes in the presence of a catalyst and solvent at elevated temperatures and pressures. The invented preparation process is characterized by reacting at least one alkoxybutene containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alkoxy moiety and in allyl position to a double bond with carbon monoxide at a temperature ranging from 60 to 140 degC and under partial pressure of carbon monoxide within the range of 3 to 30 MPa in the presence of a catalyst based on palladium and an ingredient being selected from the group comprising chlorides, acids, nitrogen-containing ligands and phosphorus-containing ligands at molar ration of the ingredient to the catalyst of 0.1 to 10.

Q = a gp. of formula (i); R1 = alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or alkylaryl (all with up to 30C, all opt. unsatd., all opt. substd. with one or more halo, OH, 1-8C alkoxy, 1-8C alkylthio, NO2, acylamino, and SO3H); R2-R9 = H or as R1; one of R2+R3, R3+R4, R4+R5, R5+R6, R6+R7 = A; A = 1-30C hydrocarbyl structure, opt. forming more than 1 ring (opt. substd. by 1 or more halo, OH and alkoxy); R = (CH2)n, 1,2-phenylene or a gp. of formula (a); provided R3+R4 is not A in (Ib) or (Ie). Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of dihydroxyacetone (DHA) by the thiazole ylid catalysed condensation of formaldehyde, by carrying out the prodn. of (A), and adding formaldehyde before, during or after the prodn. of (A).

Abstract: A process is proposed for producing acyloines of general formula (I) in which R and R are identical or different and represent hydrogen or a C1-C20 alkyl, a C6-C10 aryl, a C7-C12 aralkyl, a heteroaryl, or a heterocycloalkyl group, these groups being substituted if appropriate, with the exception of formaldehyde autocondensation products. In the proposed process, an aldehyde of formula (II) R CHO is allowed to react with an aldehyde of formula (III) R CHO, in which R and R have the meanings indicated above and at least one of the groups R and R represents a group other than hydrogen, in the presence of catalysts produced using an auxiliary base from triazolium salts of formula (IV) in which R and R are identical or different and represent aliphatic groups with 1-30 carbon atoms, or, if appropriate, aryl groups, aralkyl groups and/or heteroaryl groups, these groups being substituted if appropriate; R represents hydrogen or the group R CH(OH); and A is the equivalent of a singly or multiply negatively charged anion for the electrical neutralisation of the triazolium cation charge.
