Abstract: The invention relates to a method for oligomerising C2- to C8 olefins on a heterogeneous catalyst containing nickel. Said method comprises the following steps: i) a catalyst pre-treatment phase in which the catalyst is brought into contact with a first hydrocarbon mixture which has an olefin content of less than 50 wt. % and contains less than 0.1 wt. % diolefins and alkines; and ii) an essentially stationary working phase in which a stream of a second hydrocarbon mixture, which contains 50 to 100 wt. % C2- to C8 olefins and less than 10 wt. ppm diolefins and alkines, is brought into contact with the catalyst.

Abstract: The invention describes a process for the preparation of surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers which are, inter alia, highly suitable as surfactants or for the preparation of surfactants. The process, starting from olefin mixtures having a defined minimum content of linear hexenes, gives mixtures having a predominant fraction of branched dodecenes, which are subsequently derivatized to give surfactant alcohols and then optionally alkoxylated. The surfactant alcohol mixture obtained in the process has a degree of branching of from 2.0 to 3.0 and in particular exhibits advantageous properties as regards ecotoxicity and biodegradability. A description is also given of the use of the surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers as surfactants by glycosidation or polyglycosidation, sulfation or phosphation.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing alcohol mixtures. According to the inventive method a) a hydrocarbon mixture that contains C4 monoolefins is reacted in a metathesis reaction, b) an olefin fraction is isolated from the reaction mixture obtained by said metathesis reaction, said fraction substantially containing olefins with 5 to 8 carbon atoms, c) the olefin fraction is catalytically hydroformylated by reacting it with carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and is hydrated. The invention also relates to alcohol mixtures that are obtainable by such a method, to a method for the esterification of the alcohol mixtures, to the esters thereby obtained and to their use.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing novel surfactant alcohols an d surfactant alcohol ethers by derivatising olefins with approximately 10 to 2 0 C-atoms or mixtures of such olefins to produce alkanols and optionally, subsequently alkoxylating them. The method is characterised in that a C4- olefin-mixture is subjected to metathesis, the resulting olefins are dimeris ed and then derivatised to produce surfactant alcohols, and these are optionall y alkoxylated. The olefin mixture obtained from dimerisation contains a large proportion of branched components and less than 10 wt. % of compounds containing a vinylidene group. The invention also relates to the use of surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers for producing surfactants by glycosylation or polyglycosylation, sulphation or phosphation.

Abstract: C2-C8-olefins are oligomerized in a process in which a stream of an olefin-containing hydrocarbon mixture is passed over a heterogeneous, nickel-containing oligomerization catalyst in n successive adiabatically operated reaction zones, where n>=2, and the hydrocarbon mixture experiences a temperature increase 66 Treact in each reaction zone and the hydrocarbon mixture enters the first reaction zone at a temperature Tin and before entering each further reaction zone is cooled to a temperature which in each case may be up to 20° C. above or below Tin, and the relative catalyst volumes of the individual reaction zones are such that the difference in DeltaTreact between any two reaction zones is not more than 20° C.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for shutting down a reactor used to oligomerize alkenes on a heterogeneous catalyst containing nickel. According to the inventive method, the amount of alkenes in the feed stream to the reactor is decreased by using a hydrocarbon flow which is substantially devoid of aromatic compounds. The amount of alkenes in the feed stream to the reactor is reduced to less than 10 % wt. % of the total feed stream so that the temperature of the catalyst does not exceed or does not substantially exceed the maximum temperature of the catalyst in a productive operational mode before the shut down occurs. The hydrocarbon flow which is substantially devoid of aromatic compounds and which is used partially or fully is the flow which is retained when the oligomer products are separated from the reactor discharge.

Abstract: The invention describes a process for the preparation of novel surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers by derivatization of olefins having from about 10 to 20 carbon atoms or of mixtures of such olefins to give alkanols, and optional subsequent alkoxylation, which comprises subjecting a C 4 -olefin mixture to metathesis, dimerizing the resulting olefins, and then derivatizing them to give surfactant alcohols, and optionally alkoxylating said alcohols. The olefin mixture obtained in the dimerization has a high proportion of branched components and less than 10% by weight of compounds which contain a vinylidene group. invention further describes the use of the surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers to give surfactants by glycosylation or polyglycosylation, sulfation or phosphation.
