Abstract: A multistep process for the continuous preparation of organic polyisocyanates, preferably aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diisocyanates, by reacting the corresponding organic polyamines with carbonic acid derivatives and alcohols to give monomeric polyurethanes and pyrolyzing the latter involves separating the resultant polyisocyanates and worthless residues in certain reaction steps and recycling the reusable by-products into earlier steps.

Abstract: Prodn. of N-omega-hydroxyalkyl and (poly)oxaalkyl carbamates HO-A-NH-CO2R' (I) comprises reacting an omega-aminoalcohol or amino-(poly)oxaalcohol HO-A-NH2 (II) with urea and an alcohol or ether alcohol R'-OH (III) at 170-250 deg.C with removal of ammonia. A = 2-12C alkylene, oxa-alkylene or polyoxa-alkylene; R' = 1-6C alkyl opt. contg. an O atom. The reaction is pref. carried out at 180-235 deg.C; and the ratio (II):urea:(III) is pref. 1:1-1.5:5-50. The reaction can be carried out in the presence of a metal ion catalyst, e.g. a chloride, bromide, sulphate etc. of Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Sn, Ti etc.

Abstract: Polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine, manufactured by reaction of iodine and a polyvinylpyrrolidone obtained by polymerization in an anhydrous organic solvent in the presence of a source of free radicals and optionally in the presence of a heavy metal of atomic number from 23 to 29, in the form of a complex compound or of a salt with an organic acid, as a co-activator, followed by steam distillation of this polyvinylpyrrolidone, if appropriate. The PVP-iodine of the invention is very stable and can be used as a disinfectant.

Abstract: O.Z. 0050/033151 A process for the preparation of PVP-iodine by reacting polyvinylpyrrolidone powder with elementary iodine at from 70 to 100.degree.C. The reaction is carried out in the presence of formic acid, oxalic acid or an ammonium salt or amide of carbonic acid, formic acid or oxalic acid. The process avoids the disadvantage of long periods of heating, which can result in degradation of the polyvinylpyrrolidone, and is particularly suitable for the preparation of an stable PVP-iodine using a low molecular weight polyvinylpyrrolidone.
