Abstract: The dispersions are prepd. by dispersing the fibrous prods in the presence of a dispersant. Dispersant consists of polyoxyalkylated sulphated alcohols contg. 1-6 structural units having formula -C-O- (CH2CH2O)x (CH2CHMeO) SO3M(I) (where x = 0-30; y = 1-35; M = Na, K or NH4+ and Me is methyl). The fibrid dispersions can be processed to paper or textile-like sheets and webs. Used of (I) prevents foaming and agglomeration on distn. of fibrid dispersions and in sheet formation, esp. on paper machines. Fibre-bonding and initial wet-strength of webs obtd. is improved. Small quantities of (I) are sufficient to disperse the hydrophobic fibrids in water. In an example, high density polyethylene fibrids were mixed with sulphite pulp in water. Dispersion was added to a sheet-former contg. water. 1% CH2O 2 - (CH2-CH2O)38(CH2CHMeO)4o (SO3Na)2 was used as dispersant. The sheets obtd. had wt/area 130 g/m2, initial wet strength 70g. Foaming on distn. and sheet-forming was weak. No sheet could be formed in absence of (I).

Abstract: Aq. dispersions contg. polyolefin fibrids alone or in admixt with cellulose fibres are prepd. by use as dispersing agents of imidazoline derivs. of formula (a) or their salts (b) (where R' = satd. or unsatd. 7-25C alkyl residue R2=OH, -NH2, (where R4 = H or Me; R5 = Me or Et; n=0-50 & m=0-15). R3 = H, 1-5C alkyl residue or where X = -CH2-, -CHOH-, O or S and y = 1-4; and X = Cl, Br, I or OSO3Me). Prepn. of sheet materials, e.g. papers or felts having H2O-resistant properties. Surfactants previously used in prepn. and dispersion of fibrids caused severe foaming both at the prepn. stage and during subsequent sheet making. Use of the new dispersants prevents the occurrence of foaming at both stages of the process.

Abstract: Method for prodn. of aq. dispersns. of polyolefin, fibrides by dispersing fibrides of aliphatic olefin polymers, opt. in admixt. with cellulose fibres, in water in the presence of a dispersing agent comprising cpds. of formula (I) or salts (b): (where R' = satd. or olefinically unsatd. C7 to C25 alkyl grp., R2 = OH, NH2, R4 = H, CH3; R5 = CH3, C2H5; n = 0 to 50; m = 0 to 15; x = Cl, Br, I or OSO3CH3). The aqs. dispersions may be used to prod. surface structures similar to paper and textiles. The dispersns. cause almost no foam in paper machines and the bonding between synthetic short fibres and those of cellulose is not disadvantageously influenced.
