Abstract: Impact resistant thermoplastic moulding materials (I) contain (A) 15-75 wt.% thermoplastic polyamide, (B) 20-70 wt.% polyphenylene ether (PPE), (C) 5-15 wt.% conjugated diene/vinylaromatic block copolymer with Shore hardness above 80A and (D) 0-60 wt.% other additives. Pref. (I) contains 35-54 wt.% (A), 38-50 wt.% (B) and 8-15 wt.% (C). (C) comprises at least 2 vinyl-aromatic polymer blocks (A, A') and at least 1 diene polymer block (B, B'), pref. with formula A-B-A'-B'. (B) is dispersed in (A) with mean particle dia. below 0.8 micron, and pref. consists of PPE with mol. wt. 40,000-55,000 and acid number of 1.8-3.2, derived from (b1) 70-99.95 wt.% PPE, (b2) 0-25 wt.% vinyl-aromatic polymer and (b3) 0.05-5 wt.% cpd(s). with double or triple bond(s) and functional gp(s)., i.e. carboxylic acid, ester, amide or anhydride, epoxide, oxazoline or urethane. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for the prodn. of fibres, film and moulded prods. Also claimed are moulded prods. obtd. from (I). (I) have (esp.) good notched impact strength and impact penetration resistance combined with ductile properties at low temp., and are useful esp. for injection moulded or extruded parts which are subjected to thermal stress in automobile
