R = H, 1-4C alkyl, CN, F, Cl, Br or CF3; R1 = H or 1-6C alkyl; m = 1 or 2; n = 2-4; R2 = 1-12C alkyl (opt. substd. by OH or 1-4C alkoxy); 3-6C cycloalkyl; Ar; -(-CH2)qAr; -(-CH2-)-qO-Ar; or opt. substd. 5-6 membered, unsatd. heterocyclyl; Ar = R3, R4, R5-phenyl; R3, R4, R5 = H, 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, or 1 or 2 of them can be F, Cl, Br, CN or CF3, and one of them can be Ph or PhO; q = 1-4. (I) are new cpds. when R2 = 1-4C alkyl substd. by OH or 1-4C alkoxy; Ar; -(-CH2-)-qAr, -(-CH2-)-qO-Ar, or opt. substd. heterocyclyl; R3, R4, R5 are as defined but not Ph or PhO, and at least one must be other than H.

New (I) are prepd. by reacting an omega-(3-hydroxy-4-benzoylphenoxy)-alkanol of formula (II) with a polybasic acid X(COOH)p in an inert solvent, esp. benzene, toluene or xylene, in the presence of an acid catalyst, esp.
