Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new cosmetic which permits an improvement in skin care. SOLUTION: This cosmetic is obtained by the use of at least a kind of copolymer prepared by radical-copolymerizing a monomer mixture comprising (a) 1-99.99 mass % of at least a kind of monomer selected from N-vinylimidazols and, if necessary, partially or completely quarternized diallylamines, (b) 0-98.99 mass % of at least a kind of neutral or basic water-soluble monomer, (c) 0-50 mass % of at least a kind of unsaturated acid or unsaturated acid anhydride, (d) 0-50 mass % of at least a kind of radical-copolymerizable monomer and (e) 0.01-10 mass % of a monomer which has at least two ethylenically unsaturated nonconjugated double bonds and acts as a kind of crosslinking agent and by partially or completely quarternizing the copolymer or carrying out protonation of the copolymer when the monomer a is not quarternized or partially quarternized.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain polymeric powder or polymeric granules comprising a water-insoluble polymer and a water-soluble polymer, completely re-dispersible, suitable for uniform coating of pharmaceutical or agrochemical dosage form and enabling the easily controllable release of active ingredient(s). SOLUTION: The re-dispersible polymeric powder or granules comprises (a) 10-95 wt.% of polyvinyl acetate, (b) 5-90 wt.% of an N-vinylpyrrolidone-contg. polymer, (c) 0-20 wt.% of another water-soluble or water-swellable substance and d) 0-20 wt.% of water-insoluble pulverizing agent, and in some cases, (e) other additive(s), so as to coat a pharmaceutical or agrochemical dosage form. The polymeric powder or granules ensures the controlled release of the active substance, epoxiconazole into soil for at least 6 months through a polyvinyl acetate/polyvinyl pyrrolidone coat.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the use of a cross-linked cationic copolymer having N- vinylimidazole units in a cosmetic composition. SOLUTION: (i) The use of a radical-initiated copolymer of a monomer mixture comprising (a) 1-99.99 wt. % of N-vinylimidazole or a quaternized N- vinylimidazole, (b) 0-98.99 wt. % of a neutral or basic water-soluble monomer, (c) 0-49.00 wt. % of an unsaturated acid or an unsaturated acid anhydride, (d) 0-50 wt. % of a radically copolymerizable monomer, and (e) 0.01-10 wt. % of another radically copolymerizable bifunctional or multifunctional monomer and (ii) a polymer obtained by subsequently quaternizing or protonating the radical-initiated copolymer, when the N-vinylimidazole not quaternized is used as the monomer (a). The cross-linked cationated copolymer having the N- vinylimidazole units acts remarkably good conditioning and setting actions in cosmetics for hair.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymeric powder or polymeric granules comprising a water-insoluble polymer and a water-soluble polymer, suitable as a binder for production of solid pharmaceutical dosage forms and capable of rapidly releasing active substance(s). SOLUTION: This polymeric powder or granules as binder comprise(s) 10-95 wt.% of polyvinyl acetate, 5-90 wt.% of an N-vinylpyrrolidone-contg. polymer, 0-20 wt.% of another water-soluble or water-swellable substance and 0-20 wt.% of a water-insoluble pulverizing agent, and in some cases, other additive(s). The content of the binder in the other objective dosage form is 0.5-20 wt.%. This polymeric powder or granules has (have) remarkable binding action, and does not disintegrate the dose form and also does not virtually affect the release of the active substance(s) included in the preparation within the concentration range of 0.5-20 wt.%, based on the whole weight of the prescribed preparation as the dosage form.

SOLUTION: The use of a polymer obtained by the radical copolymerization of a monomer mixture comprising (A) 1-99.99 wt.% of a cationic monomer or a quaternizable monomer [preferably an N-vinylimidazole derivative of the formula (R -R are each H, a 1-4C alkyl or the like)], (B) 0-98.99 wt. % of a water-soluble monomer (preferably N-vinylpyrrolidone), (C) 0-50 wt.% of a radically copolymerizable monomer (e.g. N-t-butylacrylamide) and (D) 0.01-10 wt.% of another bifunctional or multifunctional radically copolymerizable monomer (e.g. tripropylene glycol diacrylate) and further quaternizing the obtained polymer, when the monomer A is not quaternized, as a conditioning agent.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a block copolymer having excellent solubilizing capacity and stability upon dilution of the substance to be solubilized, which copolymer is a block copolymer having a structure: A-B-A (wherein A is a polyethylene oxide block, and B is a polymer comprising an olefinically unsaturated quat. ammonium compound) and used as a surfactant. SOLUTION: Block A has an average degree of polymerization of 5-100. Block B contains a polymer comprising a quat. ammonium compound (monomer I) represented by formula (wherein (x) is 5-18; R and R are each a 1-5C alkyl; R is a 1-5C alkyl or a hydroxyalkyl; and X is a halide, acetate or metasulfate ion) or contains a mixture of monomer II represented by formula II (wherein R is Cn H2n+1 ; (n) is 5-18; and X is as defined in formula I) and monomer III represented by formula III (wherein R and R are each a 1-3C alkyl or a 1-3C hydroxyalkyl; and X is as defined in formula I) in a ratio of III to II of 1:20 to 20:1.

Abstract: Polymers (I) used as conditioning and hair-fixing gel formers in cosmetic formulations are obtained by (i) free radical-initiated copolymerisation of monomer mixtures of: (a) 1-99.9 wt.% optionally quaternised N-vinylimidazole, (b) 0-98.99 wt.% neutral or basic water-soluble monomer, (c) 0-49.99 wt.% unsaturated acid or anhydride, (d) 0-50 wt.% other comonomer and (e) 0.01-10 wt.% bi- or poly-functional comonomer, followed by (ii) quaternisation or protonisation of (I) is monomer (a) is not quaternised. Also claimed are hair cosmetics and hair gels containing (I).
