    Abstract: A compact magnetic tape cassette has, at the front of its top and bottom surfaces, raised housing parts to receive at least one playback/recording head. At the junction between a raised part and the planar top or bottom surface, the cassette has ribs 47, 49 which preserve or continue the outer profile of the raised part. The ribs are said to avoid thermal stress at the junction upon heating, and thus avoid distortion of tape guides within the cassette. The rib may be replaced by ribs extending the length of the cassette (Fig. 5), or by cylindrical nubs (55, Fig. 7), or by separate parts bonded or mechanically fixed to the cassette, or by a part connected by a film hinge. The cassette housing can be made from fracture-resistant, or electrically conducting, plastics, or from magnetically shielding metal.

    Abstract: A magnetic tape cassette is designed with a casing elevation. The usual two-part casing of such a cassette is simulated by substantially flat casing parts connected to at least one third separate casing part, which is able to be suitably connected to the flat casing parts. The improvement in the position of the tape-guiding elements can be achieved for all types of comparable cassettes.
