Abstract: A thermoplastic moulding material based on polyethylene terephthalate contains preferably 37-96 wt % PET, 1-20 wt % polymer material containing preferably polyurethane, and approximately 4-30 wt % pigment-type stiffening agent of, in particular, metal and/or metal oxide CrO2. The moulding materials can be advantageously processed in injection moulding and the resulting mouldings have advantageous properties, in particular higher density, compared to a comparable glass fibre-filled polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). The proposed thermoplastic moulding material can be advantageously used for small parts and housing parts, especially for electronic and data-processing devices.

Abstract: Large amounts of coated foils can be fed to a continuous recycling process in which the coating carrier material and any pigments present in the coating can be recovered. The treatment is carried out at room temperature in an alkaline medium comprising soft soap, organic solvents and/or water, optionally with the use of catalyst. The solvent is recirculated. After the first treatment step, the foil shreds can be treated in a second step with a solvent - water mixture, in a similar manner to the first step. A third step involves thorough final washing in a water or solvent circuit. The recovered foil shreds are dried, pressed, ground and shaped as desired in a plastics agglomerator and the recovered pigments are dried in a vacuum. The process and devices can advantageously be used for any type of coating carriers or printed carriers, for example magnetic coating carriers, printed plates or pigment-free coating carriers.

Abstract: In order to recover the magnetic powder and the PET from a magnetic recording medium comprising a polyethylene terephthalate layer base and a magnetic layer cast thereon, in which finely divided magnetic powder is finely dispersed in polyurethane binder, finely comminuted magnetic tape waste according to the invention is treated at elevated temperature in organic solvents, an acid soluble therein and alcohols or thio alcohols and optionally surfactants. The magnetic layer stripped off in this way is separated from the layer base by a washing process, and subsequently both layer base and magnetic powder are dried. The materials recovered in this manner can be processed and used in further ways.

Special opening means effect simple opening operations of the housing. Material-identification means can control the reprocessing appropriately for the particular material. All magnetic tape cassettes with at least one reel can be reprocessed.
