    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve recording performance and mechanical stability by incorpo rating a thermoplastic and elastic polyurethane binder which is easily dissolved in either and/or ketone and has good dispersability into a magnetic medium. CONSTITUTION: This magnetic recording medium comprises a nonmagnetic substrate and a magnetic layer formed of a magnetic material which is finely dispersed in a binder containing 50wt.% thermoplastic polyurethane. The thermoplastic polyurethane is a branched-chain polyurethane which is soluble with tetrahydrofuran and contains no isocyanate group. The polyurethane has urea groups with or without OH groups on the end of the chain and 30000 to 100000mol.wt.(Mw) and comprises the following five components. (A) One mol of polydiol having 400 to 10000mol.wt., (B) 0.3 to 10 moles of mixture of 12-18C diol and diol having phosphone groups, (C) 0.01 to 1 mole of 3-25C triol or polyol. (D) 1.3 to 13 moles of 6-30C diisocyanate, and (E) 0.09 to 2 moles of 2-16C aminoalcohol or monoamine containing no OH group. The ratios of OH groups in the components (A) to (C), NCO groups in the components (D) and the amino groups in the component (E) are 1:(1.03 to 1.3):(0.03 to 0.3).

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a recording medium having rapid diffusibility and excellent flowability by providing the medium with a magnetic layer which contains a polyurethane binder and is firmly adhered to a nonmagnetic carrier and incorporating a prescribed composition in the binder. CONSTITUTION: The magnetic recording medium is formed of a nonmagnetic carrier material and one layer of the magnetic layer which consists essentially of a magnetic material finely dispersed in the binder consisting of 50wt.% of thermoplastic polyurethane and is firmly adhered on the carrier material. As the thermoplastic polyurethane, a branched polyurethane which contains no isocyanate groups soluble in tetrahydrofuran, has phosphonate groups along polyurethane branchings and OH groups contg.-urea at a chain end and has 4000 to 30000 molecular weight is used. The branched polyurethane is produced from 0.3 to 9mol mixture composed of 1mol of polydiol having 400 to 4000 molecular weight, at least one kind of 1 to 18C diol and diol having phosphate groups, 0.01 to 1mol of 3 to 25C triol or polyol 1.25 to 13mol of 6 to 30C diisocyanate and in which NCO:HO is 1.05:1.0 to 1.4:1.0 and 0.05 to 4mol of primary and secondary amines having OH groups and reactive to isocyanate.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a bonding agent having an average molecular weight in a specified range, excellent mechanical property and a high crosslinking rate, by causing a reaction between specified polyurethane and a specified compound having an amino group reactive to an isocyanate group. CONSTITUTION: Polyurethane is made of 1mol of diol having an average molecular weight of 400-4000, 0.1-10mol of aliphatic/alicyclic diol, 0.01-10mol of aromatic diol, 0.01-2mol of trivalent alcohol, 0.01-8mol of polyvalent alcohol, and diisocyanate having a mol ratio with respect to all hydroxyl groups of 1.05:1 to 1.4:1. Aliphatic/alicyclic diol has 2-18 carbon atoms, and aromatic diol has 8-16 carbon atoms. By causing a reaction between this polyurethane and a compound having a hydroxyl group and an amino group reactive to an isocyanate group, a suitable composition for a crosslinkable coupling agent for forming a magnetic powder layer, containing a material having an average molecular weight of 25000-150000, may be provided.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To enhance wear resistance and residual magnetic induction at and under a high temp. and high humidity and to obtain a defectless layer surface and a narrow magnetic field intensity distribution by using OH group-contg. polyurea urethane and polyurethane urea (meth)acrylate as a binder compsn. in a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION: The polyurethane urea (meth)acrylate consists of poly (meth) acrylate having terminal OH groups up to two pieces per mol and a mol.wt. of 200 to 50000, 0.1 to 10wt.% diisocyanate, 30 to 80wt.% triisicyanate, 20 to 60wt.% isocyanate exhibiting functional 4 to 10. The polyurea (meth)acrylate is brought into reaction with an aliphat. polyisocyanate mixture having average functionality of NCO groups of 3 to 6 pieces per mol. The NCO groups of 2 to 3 pieces per piece of the OH group react and the residual NCO groups are converted to a substd. terminal urea group having multifunctional amine or plural kinds of the multifunctional amine mixture varying from each other.
