Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of magnetic recording media (carriers) essentially comprising a polymeric substrate and at least one magnetic layer, applied to the substrate, of a solidified dispersion of finely divided magnetic pigments in a solution of organic binders and conventional additives, where the substrate, in particular in order to improve the adhesive strength of the magnetic layer to the substrate, is treated with UV radiation produced by the decomposition of excimers.

Abstract: A description is given of a monitoring device for frozen foods, with the aid of which overshooting of an additional storage temperature is irreversibly indicated. A flat plastic bag with transparent walls is connected to the frozen goods in a thermally conductive fashion, and a eutectic medium having a liquid/solid phase transition in the range from 0 DEG C to -50 DEG C is introduced into said bag together with a magnetic dispersion consisting of finely disperse magnetic pigments. Bonded on the bag is a magnetic strip which contains a magnetically recorded pattern and which remains connected to the bag until the monitoring device with the frozen goods is cooled below the limiting temperature. The magnetic strip is then removed. Upon overshooting of the permissible limiting temperature, the optically or magnetically readable structure generated by the magnetic strip is cancelled in the monitoring bag, so that it is easy to monitor the frozen food. The invention permits numerous varying possibilities by the combination of a plurality of mounted magnetic strips.

Two types of pigment are used with the first having a concentration of 15-45 meters per gram and the second having 5 meters per gram higher. The mix is with a first pigment of 50-59 % and the second pigment with 41-50%.

Abstract: Finely divided, needle-like magnetic CrO2 modified with Fe, Te and/or Sb has a coercive field strength of at least 40 kA/m, a saturation magnetisation of at least 85 nTm /g, and a specific surface area (SSA) of a least 25 m /g. A temp. dependent drop of remanent magnetisation of around 50% is achieved only above 95 deg C. Prodn. of the CrO2 is also claimed.

Abstract: The stochastic alignment system uses a magnetic drum (3) with radial permanent magnets of alternating polarity, rotated relative to the surface of an organic layer (2) incorporating finely dispersed magnetic particles applied to a flexible carrier (1). The dispersed magnetic particles may be oriented via a uniform, undidirectional, magnetic field before the stochastic alignment. - The rotation rate of the magnetic drum (3) and/or its spacing from the dispersion layer (2) are regulated by monitoring the stochastic alignment of the magnetic particles.
