Date Sep. 14, 1995Magnetic powder and substrate material are separately recovered from finely chopped wastes of magnetic recording media consisting of a polymeric substrate and a magnetic layer present thereon in which finely divided magnetic powder is dispersed in crosslinked or uncrosslinked polymeric binder by treating the finely chopped wastes of magnetic recording media in a solution consisting of the potassium salt of a polyunsaturated fatty acid, or a biodegradable cleaning agent comprising phosphates, surfactants and a complexing agent, and one or more organic solvents or water while being subjected to mechanical action, and separately removing the magnetic powder from the substrate material by washing or sedimentation or in a magnetic separator.
Abstract:
The invention concerns the recovery for re-use of magnetic powder and polyethyleneterephthalate from a magnetic recording carrier consisting of a PET layer carrier and a magnetic layer cast thereon, in which finely particulate magnetic powder is finely dispersed in a polyurethane binder. According to the invention, finely cut waste magnetic tape is treated at a high temperature in an alkaline medium consisting of potassium salts of polyunsaturated fatty acids, one or more organic solvents and optionally water, a catalyst and surfactants. The magnetic layer detached in this way is separated from the layer carrier by a washing process and then both the layer carrier and the magnetic powder are dried. The valuable substances recovered in this way can be subjected to further processing and used for other application purposes.
Abstract:
A protective container is provided for substantially cuboidal objects which is in the form of a hollow cuboid case which is open on one side. A case part is provided for covering the open side, the case part is U-shaped or partially U-shaped in this position. A closure arrangement is provided which connects the hollow cuboid case and the case part reveals when the container is opened for the first time. This container is especially well-suited for use with cassettes of all types, as well as other substantially cuboidal articles.

Abstract:
A protective container for substantially parallelepipedal bodies e.g. video cassettes comprises a hollow parallelepipedal case (6) which is open on one side (7) and a case part (9) for covering the open side and which in this position, is channel-shaped in cross-section along at least part of its length. A tamper-indicating strip 13 may be provided.
