Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having a ferromagnetic metal layer on a nonmagnetic substrate and having a protective layer thereon which shows excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance by constituting the protective layer of a material expressed by specified formula. CONSTITUTION: This magnetic recording medium has at least one ferromagnetic metal layer on a nonmagnetic substrate and has a protective layer on the metal layer. The protective layer comprises a compd. expressed by formula X-(CH2 )n -(CF2 )m -Y. In the formula, X is H2 O3 P, HO3 S, NaO3 SS, HS or H3 C-SO3 , Y is CH3 or CF3 , n is an integer 3 to 11, and m is an integer 0 to 7. Thereby, the obtd. medium has excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having a ferromagnetic metal layer on a nonmagnetic substrate and having a protective layer thereon which shows excellent durability against repeated use by constituting the protective layer of a component expressed by specified formula. CONSTITUTION: This magnetic recording medium consists of a nonmagnetic substrate, at least one ferromagnetic metal layer on the substrate and a protective layer on the metal layer. This protective layer is formed of a compsn. expressed by formula Z-(CF2 )m -(CH2 )n -X-Y-(CH2 )n -(CF2 )m -Z. In formula, X is -S- or -CHOH, Y is -S- or -C=O, Z is -CH3 , -CF3 or -CH=CH2 , n is an integer 2 to 17, and m is an integer 0 to 7. Thereby, the obtd. magnetic recording medium has excellent surface mechanical characteristics showing special durability even when it is repeatedly used, and the medium is extremely stable against corrosion of the metal thin film by air of humidity in air. Therefore, a recording medium having excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance can be obtd.
