Abstract: A vacuum demand valve (10) is capable of delivering a flowable material. The valve (10) has a housing (11) having a proximal end (14), a distal end (16), an intermediate segment (18) therebetween defining a passageway (24) wherein the flowable substance can flow from the proximal end (14) to the distal end (16). The housing (11) can be tubing. A valve member (20) is located along the intermediate segment (18). The valve member (20) has a closed condition wherein the flowable material from the proximal end (14) to the distal end (16) is stopped and an open condition wherein the flow of the flowable material from the proximal end (14) to the distal end (16) is unstopped. The valve member (20) is biased in the closed condition and is responsive to a partial vacuum provided by the user through the passageway (24) for placing the valve member (20) in the open condition.

Blood is directed through the inlet (46) of a separation device (40) for removing undesired matter while directing the blood substantially free of undesired matter from the outlet (48) of the separation device (40) and into a collection container (18) through the first port (P1). Residual air from the collection container (18) is expelled through a second port (P2) different from the first port (P1). The residual air is directed toward the inlet (46) of the separation device (40) to remove residual blood from the separationdevice (40) for collection in the collection container (18) through the first port (P1).

Abstract: A system and a method for administering a solution (12) from a container (10) to a patient (35) are provided. The container (10) is divided into a solution side (16) and a drain side (18) separated by a tear line (20). The solution side (16) and the drain side (18) are in fluid communication with one another and with a port (28) that connects to the patient (35). The container (10) is separable at the tear line (20) such that contents of a peritoneum cavity of the patient (35) may be drained into the drain side (18) of the container (10). Then, the solution (12) from the solution side (16) of the container (10) may be drained from the container (10) into the patient (35).

Abstract: A connector assembly is provided having a male component (12) and a female component (10) to provide fluid communication between a fluid source and a destination such as a patient. The female component (10) includes a door (28) rotatable about a hinge (30). The door (28) is forced open by a longitudinal member (34) within the male component (12). The door (28) is converted into a position parallel to the length of the female component (10) providing fluid communication between a tubing (36) extending into the female component (10). A sleeve (44) is further provided to permit and to prevent fluid flow through a tubing by rotation of the sleeve (44) resulting in compression and expansion of longitudinal members (46) within the sleeve (44) and thereby the tubing.
