    Abstract: A small cell wireless communication device includes an antenna having an array of radiating elements, a control circuit, and a transceiver/radio. The transceiver is electrically coupled to the antenna by an array of phase shifters, which are responsive to control signals that encode phase weight information and enable the array of phase shifters and the array of radiating elements to collectively perform elevation beamsteering of wireless signals generated by the transceiver, in response to signals generated by the control circuit upon movement of the antenna. In some instances, these signals generated by the control circuit may include an elevation beam index, which may operate as a pointer into a look-up table, which stores phase-weights to be provided to the array of phase shifters.

    Abstract: Base station antennas include a main module that has a first backplane that includes a first reflector. A vertically-extending array of first radiating elements is mounted to extend forwardly from the first reflector, and at least one first RF port is coupled to the vertically-extending array of first radiating elements. These antennas further include a sub-module that is attached to the first backplane. The sub-module includes a second backplane that has a second reflector that is separate from the first reflector. A vertically-extending array of second radiating elements is mounted to extend forwardly from the second reflector and is transversely spaced-apart from the vertically-extending array of first radiating elements. A plurality of second RF ports are coupled to the vertically-extending array of second radiating elements. The vertically-extending array of first radiating elements and the vertically-extending array of second radiating elements are configured to serve a common sector of a base station.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for operating an antenna providing a coverage area using beamforming and carrier aggregation techniques. The proposed system aims to optimize the use of carrier aggregation for beamforming systems. The system may include a beamforming module coupled to first array and second arrays of radiating elements, the first array being configured to provide wireless coverage on a first frequency carrier in a first coverage area, and the second array being configured to provide wireless coverage on a second frequency carrier in a second coverage area. The beamforming module may be configured to receive one or more indicators associated with one or more user equipments (UEs) in the coverage area. Based on the one or more indicators, the beamforming module may be configured to dynamically adjust, in the RF domain, at least one of a location of the second coverage area and a size of the second coverage area.
