Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable using of a coating suspension having a high solid substance content and make the position of a coated edge part inside a passage highly reproducible, sufficiently irrespectively of the cell density of a carrier. SOLUTION: The carrier is loaded starting with the lower end face by the filled volume of the coating suspension which is measured so that the carrier is loaded only upto the previously prescribed height of a part of the length L of the carrier. Thus the excess coating suspension is removed downward and a desired coating amount of the suspension is made to remain in the carrier.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a nitrogen oxide-occluding material and the nitrogen oxide-occluding material obtained by the same. SOLUTION: The nitrogen oxide-occluding material is constituted of a carrier material selected from the group of a doped cerium oxide, cerium/zircon-mixed oxides and aluminum oxide or mixtures thereof and at least one particulate occluding component of oxides, carbonates or hydroxides of elements of magnesium, strontium, barium, lanthanum and cerium, each being loaded on the carrier material. The method of producing the nitrogen oxide-occluding material comprises suspending a carrier material in an aqueous solution containing a precursor of an occluding component, then introducing the suspension into a hot gas flow and controlling the distribution of the temperature of the hot gas flow so that a solvent of the suspension is allowed to evaporate for a residence time shorter than 1 min in the hot gas flow, the precursor of the occluding component is decomposed by heat and converted into the occluding component, and the occluding material thus formed is separated from the hot gas flow.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the loss of powder, to shorten the operation time of a plant and to eliminate risk to the quality of a product by introducing a reaction mixture into a flowing-through pipe, further treating the powder in the pipe and feeding it to a washer, separator or filter. SOLUTION: A dispersion, suspension or emulsion, secondary gas, combustion air and fuel are introduced into a burner 1. The resultant reaction mixture is introduced into a flowing-through pipe 2. An atmosphere of a reducing or oxidizing gas may be established in the flowing-through pipe 2. After passing through the pipe 2, the powder is treated in a washer 3 so as to prepare a dispersion or to prevent contact with air. The powder that leaves the pipe 2 may be separated by a separator 4 for simple treatment at a high temp. or may be separated using a filter 5 for long treatment at a high temp. Waste gas is discharged by a fan 6.
