Abstract:
A spin-on filter cartridge includes a housing, a filter element operably oriented in the housing, a baffle plate, and a seal arrangement. The baffle plate is operably oriented over the housing open end. The baffle plate defines a central flow aperture. The baffle plate defines a continuous groove immediately adjacent to and circumscribing the central flow aperture. The seal arrangement is secured to the baffle plate spaced from and circumscribing the continuous groove. In another aspect, a filter assembly includes a spin-on filter cartridge as characterized above and a filter head. The spin-on filter cartridge is removably mountable on the filter head. The filter head includes a central spud defining outer threads. An O-ring seal member or a gasket seal member is operably oriented around the central spud. When the spin-on filter cartridge is operably oriented on the filter head, the seal member is received within the continuous groove and the seal arrangement forms a seal between and against the baffle plate and the filter head. The seal can be radial or axial or have both axial and radial components. In another aspect, a method of assembling a filter assembly includes spinning a filter cartridge as characterized above onto a filter head to form a primary seal between the baffle plate on the filter cartridge and the filter head, and until a seal member fixed to the filter head is received within the continuous groove. In another aspect, a filter head is provided. The filter head includes a block defining fluid flow channels; a central spud having a threaded outer wall; and a seal member secured to and circumscribing the central spud.
Abstract:
A liquid filter assembly is provided. The preferred assembly includes a serviceable filter cartridge having a primary filter section and a secondary or bypass filter section. The preferred assembly includes a bypass valve arrangement and a suction filter arrangement. The suction filter arrangement preferably includes a dimensionally biased valve arrangement, preferably one which is devoid of a helical coiled spring, to control flow through the suction filter. A flow/pressure regulation valve, to allow flow from an interior of the assembly to a reservoir if needed, is preferably provided. Preferred serviceable filter cartridges are shown.

A liquid filter arrangement is provided, as well as methods of assembly and use. The liquid filter arrangement includes an anti-drain back valve assembly therein. Advantageous features, relating to a preferred filter cartridge and preferred anti-drain back valve arrangement, are provided.
Abstract:
Liquid filter assemblies, features, components and methods are described. In general, a liquid filter cartridge is provided which includes features that help ensure that when the assembly is serviced, the cartridge positioned within the assembly is a proper one, in proper sealing orientation, for appropriate use. Features that can be used to provide for this include: a seal on the filter cartridge that defines a seal pattern non-orthogonal to a plane perpendicular to a central axis of the filter cartridge; and, a member of a projection/receiver arrangement on the filter cartridge which is orientated to engage a portion of a liquid filter assembly, for example a liquid flow collar, to allow sealing when the cartridge is a properly positioned cartridge and a properly configured cartridge. Assembly features are described. Also, a flexible radial projection arrangement providing snap-fit interaction between a cartridge and housing is provided. Methods of assembly and use as described.
