    Abstract: A mufti-layer heat film having at least three layers is disclosed wherein the film has high optical properties, high stiffness and desirable shrinkage in the cross direction. The inner layer, or layers, comprises at least one stiffening polymer selected from the group consisting of: low density polyethylene, linear low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, blends thereof, polypropylene random copolymer, styrene/butadiene copolymer, polystyrene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and cyclic-olefin copolymer, provided that when more than one inner layer is present, the inner layers can be the same or different. The skin layers, which may be the same or different, comprise at least one of: low density polyethylene; a blend of low density polyethylene and linear low density polyethylene; a blend of low density polyethylene and very low density polyethylene; polystyrene; ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer; a blend of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and linear low density polyethylene; cyclic-olefin copolymer; styrene-butadiene copolymer; or, polypropylene random copolymer, provided that the skin layers are devoid of a homogeneously branched polyethylene resin prepared with a single site catalyst. The inventive films have haze values of less than about 15%, a 2% secant modulus greater than about 50,000 psi and a cross directional shrinkage greater than 0%. The inventive films are made by a process that does not include post-extrusion bi-axial orientation.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to nonwoven webs or fabrics. In particular, the present invention relates to nonwoven webs having superior abrasion resistance and excellent softness characteristics. The nonwoven materials comprise fibers made from of a polymer blend of isotactic polypropylene, reactor grade propylene based elastomers or plastomers, and optionally, a homoge-neously branched ethylene/alpha olefin plastomer or elastomer. The isotactic polypropylene can be homopolymer polypropylene, and random copolymers of propylene and one or more alpha-olefins. The reactor grade propylene based elastomers or plastomers plastomer have a molecular weight distribution of less than about 3.5, and a heat of fusion less than about 90 joules/gm. In particular, the reactor grade propylene based elastomers or plastomers contains from about 3 to about 15 percent by weight of units derived from an ethylene, and a melt flow rate of from about 2 to about 200 grams/10 minutes. The present invention also relates to cold drawn textured fibers comprising of a polymer blend of isotactic polypropylene and reactor grade propylene based elastomers or plastomers.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a multi-layer oriented shrink film comprising at least one skin layer comprising a polystyrene material and at least one core layer comprising a polyolefin layer. The films are preferably primarily oriented in either the machine or the cross direction. In particular, the invention pertains to elastic polymer compositions that can be more easily processed on cast film lines, extrusion lamination or coating lines due to improved resistance to draw resonance.
