    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of being used as a master tape in a high-speed magnetic copying process and capable of introducing the production of many high-quality copy tapes. SOLUTION: The tape-like magnetic recording medium includes a flexible base material having the thickness of at least 15 μm and at least one magnetic layer disposed on one surface of the base material. The magnetic layer has the thickness of at least 3 μm, in which a fine magnetic powder is embedded in a polymer binder. Further, the magnetic layer has the surface porosity rate SSP of at least 80 cm 2 /cm 2 (where, SSP is the value of the product of thickness dM (cm) of the magnetic layer multiplied by a specific surface area (cm 2 /cm 3 ) of the magnetic layer calculated from the nitrogen absorption amount per unit volume by the BET method).     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a general-purpose magnetic recording medium having neither magnetic nor mechanical anisotropy, but being improved in wear resistance and having an excellent mechanical stability at the same time. SOLUTION: This medium is a magnetic recording medium which has at least two layers 9, 8 formed upper and lower, and the lower layer 8 contains acicular magnetic powder having a coercive force of 5-40 kA/m and magnetization of 20-70 nTm /g. While the layers are still in a wet state after they have been formed, they are subjected to a magnetic non-orientation processing of magnetic recording medium, and are made non-isotropic magnetically and mechanically. The magnetic recording medium thus manufactured is suitable for a floppy disk having a high storage capacity exceeding 100 Mbits.

At least the binding agent of the magnetic layer contains both chlorine and epoxy groups, or is free of chloride.
