    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium nearly free from friction between the surface of a magnetic layer and a magnetic head. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium comprising a substrate, a lower layer and an upper magnetic layer is characterized in that a binder matrix of the upper magnetic layer has at least 50 deg.C glass transition temperature, a binder matrix of the lower layer contains at least one binder having -COO-(R -O)m -R ( wherein, R denotes a hydrocarbon group, R denotes a hydrocarbon group, R denotes an alkylene group and m denotes an integer of 1-4) and at least one compound represented by the formula R -COO-R (wherein R is as defined above and R denotes a hydrocarbon group). The manufacturing method for the magnetic recording medium is also provided.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a magnetic recording medium comprising a) a layer carrier, b) at least one lower non-magnetic layer which is applied to said carrier and comprises at least one binding agent, and c) an upper magnetic layer which is applied to the lower layer, and which, dispersed in at least one binding agent, comprises at least one magnetic metal pigment or metal alloy pigment having a passivating envelope. Said recording medium is characterised in that the upper magnetic layer has a maximum dry thickness of 300 nm; the magnetic metal pigment or metal alloy pigment has a maximum length I of 90 nm; and the length I' of the metal core, the length I of the pigment, and the shortest recording wavelength lambda for the magnetic recording on the medium follow the relation: I'/I#1-18/ lambda . At least the binding agent of the magnetic layer contains both chlorine and epoxy groups, or is free of chloride.

    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium has on a support: (A) a lower layer containing a binder and an inorganic pigment (P1); and (B) an upper layer containing a binder and a magnetic pigment (P2), as well as a non-magnetic pigment (P3). A magnetic recording medium has on a support: (A) a lower layer containing a binder and an inorganic pigment (P1); (B) an upper layer containing a binder and a magnetic pigment (P2); and (C) a non-magnetic pigment (P3). The recording medium is such that: (i) binder (B) has Tg ≥ 50 degrees C and binder (A) a Tg below 50 degrees C; (ii) pigment (P3) has a particle size at least corresponding to the layer (B) dry thickness; and (iii) the layer (B) contains an alkoxylated fatty ester compound of formula R -COO-(R -O)m-R (I) as well as a fatty ester of formula R -COO-R (III): R = optionally unsaturated 11-22C hydrocarbyl group; R = optionally unsaturated 1-6C hydrocarbyl group; R = 1-4C alkylene; m = 1-4; and R = optionally unsaturated 4-8C hydrocarbyl group.
