    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject high-purity compound in high yield without causing waste water, by reacting N-lauroyl-L-glutamic acid dimethyl ester with n-butylamine in the presence of a specific auxiliary solvent. SOLUTION: N-Lauroyl-L-glutamic acid dimethyl ester (hereinafter abbreviated as the ester) is reacted with n-butylamine in the presence of a hydrocarbon or a hydrocarbon mixture as an auxiliary solvent. n-Nonane, n-decane and a high-boiling multi-alkylated cyclohexane derivative having >=100 deg.C boiling point are preferable as the hydrocarbon. The ratio of the auxiliary solvent to the ester used is preferably 50-150wt.%. The amount of the n-butylamine used is preferably 3-6mol based on 1mol of the ester. Preferably, after the reaction, excessive n-butylamine is removed by distillation and a polar solvent such as acetone is added to the reaction mixture to precipitate the objective compound.
