Abstract: Alkaline earth metal sodium acetate, a process for its preparation and its use The alkaline earth metal sodium acetate according to the invention comprises 18 to 22 % by weight of calcium (Ca++), 0 to 1 % by weight of magnesium (Mg++), 4 to 7 % by weight of sodium (Na+), 66 to 75 % by weight of acetate (CH3COO-), 0 to 7 % by weight of water and 0 to 2 % by weight of water-insoluble components For its preparation, a calcium oxide containing at least 85% of CaO, acetic acid and sodium hydroxide solution are reacted with one another and the reaction product is granulated to give particles of 0.5 to 5 mm. The alkaline earth metal sodium acetate according to the invention can be used as an environment-friendly deicing agent causing little corrosion.

Abstract: In order to prepare crystalline sodium disilicates having a sheet structure, a molar ratio of SiO2 to Na2O of (from 1.9 to 2.1):1 and a water content of less than 0.3% by weight, a water glass solution is first obtained by reacting sand with aqueous sodium hydroxide in a molar ratio SiO2 to Na2O of (from 2.0 to 2.3):1 at temperatures of from 180 to 240 DEG C and pressures of from 10 to 30 bar. This water glass solution having a solids content of at least 20% by weight is treated in a spray dryer with hot air of from 200 to 300 DEG C to form a powdered amorphous sodium disilicate having a water content (determined as loss at red heat at 700 DEG C) of from 15 to 23% by weight and a bulk weight of at least 300 g/l. The spray-dried powdered amorphous sodium disilicate is pre-ground. The pre-ground sodium disilicate is introduced into a rotary kiln which is equipped with devices for moving solids, is heated externally via its wall and in its interior has a plurality of different temperature zones, the sodium disilicate being treated therein at temperatures of from 400 to 800 DEG C for from 1 to 60 minutes to form crystalline sodium disilicate. … …

Abstract: HOE 91/H 003 Process for the preparation of sodium silicates : To prepare crystalline sodium silicates having a laminated structure, a molar ratio of SiO2 to Na2O of (1.9 to 2.1) : 1 and a water content of less than 0.3 % by weight from a water glass solution which has a solids content of at least 20 % by weight and is obtained by reaction of sand with sodium hydroxide solution in a molar ratio of SiO2 : Na2O of (2.0 to 2.3) : 1, the water glass solution is treated with hot air of 200 to 300.degree.C in a spray drying zone to form a pulverulent, amorphous sodium silicate having a water content (determined as the loss on ignition at 700.degree.C) of 15 to 23 % by weight. The pulverulent, amorphous, water-containing sodium silicate is first ground, preferably to particle sizes of 1 to 50 .mu.m, before it is introduced into an inclined rotary tubular oven and treated in this in countercurrent with flue gas at temperatures of more than 500 to 850.degree.C to form crystalline sodium silicate. The sodium silicate issuing from the rotary tubular oven is first comminuted to particle sizes of 0.1 to 12 mm and finally ground to particle sizes of 2 to 400 .mu.m.

Abstract: In order to prepare crystalline sodium silicates having a layered structure of the formula Na2SixO2x + 1, in which x is between 2 and 3, first sand and sodium carbonate are melted in an SiO2/Na2O molar ratio of 2 to 3.5 at temperatures of 1200 to 1400 DEG C. The sodium silicate pieces formed on cooling of the melt are ground to particle sizes of less than 2 mm before being treated in an elongate reaction zone at temperatures of 600 to 800 DEG C for 10 to 120 minutes with mechanical recirculation. Finally, the material leaving the reaction zone is ground to a particle fineness of less than 1 mm.

Abstract: In order to prepare amorphous sodium silicates having a water content of 0.3 to 6% by weight and an SiO2 to Na2O molar ratio of (1.9 to 2.8):1 from a water glass solution containing at least 20% by weight of solid, the water glass solution is obtained by reaction of silica sand with sodium hydroxide solution in an SiO2 to Na2O molar ratio of (2.0 to 2.8):1 at temperatures of 180 to 240 DEG C and pressures of 10 to 30 bar. This water glass solution is treated in a spray-drying zone with hot air of 200 to 300 DEG C at a residence time of 10 to 20 s and a temperature of the waste gas leaving the spray-drying zone of 90 to 130 DEG C with formation of a pulverulent amorphous sodium silicate having a water content (determined as loss on ignition at 700 DEG C) of 15 to 23% by weight and a bulk density of more than 300 g/l. The pulverulent sodium silicate is placed in a tilted rotary kiln equipped with means for moving solids and treated therein counter-currently with flue gas at temperatures of 250 to up to 500 DEG C for 1 to 60 minutes. The rotary kiln is insulated here in such a manner that the temperature of its outer wall is less than 60 DEG C. Finally, the amorphous sodium silicate leaving the rotary kiln is comminuted by means of a mechanical crusher to particle sizes of 0.1 to 12 mm.
