Abstract: Process for prepn. of thiophosphonic and thiophosphinic acid halides of formula R-R(=S(X)R1 (I) (in which R = 1-20C alkyl, 2-20C alkenyl, 7-12C aralkyl or 6-10C aryl gp. opt. substd. by 1-3 Cl, Br, alkyl or alkoxy gps. with 1-4 C; X = halogen, esp. Cl; and R1 = R or X) comprises reacting phosphonic or phosphinic acid halides R-P(=O)R1 (II) with thiophophoryl chloride (III) at 140-250 degrees C, pref. 150-200 degrees C and at atmospheric press., and continuously distilling off the POCl3 formed. Process is simple to operate, uses easily obtainable raw materials, and gives high yields of the desired prods. (I) are useful intermediates for plant protection agents, polymeric organophosphorus cpds., selective extn. agents and additives for pressure resistant oils.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the desensitisation of 1,2-naphthoquinone-2-diazide-sulphonic acid esters, which are processed especially to give radiation-sensitive coating solutions for semiconductor substrates or printing plate carrier materials. The reaction mixture originating from the preparation of the 1,2-naphthoquinone-2-diazide-sulphonic acid esters is treated with a polymeric organic desensitising agent. A desensitised mixture, consisting essentially of 1,2-naphthoquinone-2-diazide-sulphonic acid ester and a polymeric desensitising agent, is then precipitated from the mixture.

Abstract: Prodn. of a phosphonic and phosphinic acids of formula HO-P(=O)R4R5(III) comprises reacting an ester of formula RO-P(=O)R'R2(I) with at least an equivalent amt. of a carboxylic acid of formula (II), opt. in the presence of catalytic amts. of strong acids or bases, at is approx. 100-200 (120-160) degrees C. The resulting carboxylic acid alkyl ester of formula R3COOR (IV) is distilled off and the acid (III) is isolated. In the formulae R is 1-5C alkyl opt. substd. by halo, R' and R4 are each 1-20C alkyl opt. substd. by halo, 1-10 C acylamino or di (1-10C acyl)imino, 2-8C alkenyl, 5-6C cycloalkyl, phenyl or phenyl-(1-4C alkyl) opt. ring-substd. by halo an/or 1-4C alkyl, cyanoalkyl, the residue of a 1-8C alkylcarboxylic acid, 1-8C alkyldicarboxylic acid, the residue of a 1-8C alkylcarboxylic acid 1-5C alkyl ester or 1-8C alkyl-dicarboxylic acid di(1-5C alkyl) ester (R' only)-(CH2)x-P(O)(R2)(OR') or -(p-C6H4)-P(O) (R2)(OR'), X is 1-10; R1 is 1-5C alkyl opt. substd. by halo in R', or H in R4. R2 and R5 are each 1-8C alkyl opt. substd. by halo or CN, 2-8C alkenyl, 5-6C cycloalkyl, phenyl or phenyl-(1-4C alkyl) opt. ring-substd. by halo and/or 1-4C alkyl or OR", R" is 1-5C alkyl opt. substd. by halo in R'; or H in R5; or R'+R2 is -(CH2)4-6-; and R3 is H, or 1-8C alkyl, 2-4C alkenyl, 5-6C cycloalkyl or phenyl opt. substd. by halo, R3 not being H when R' is the residue of a 1-8C alkylcarboxylic acid 1-5C alkyl ester or 1-8C alkyldicarboxylic acid di(1-5C alkyl) ester. (III) are useful as intermediates for flame-retardant agents, and plant protection agents. They can also be used as flotation additives textile aid and anticorrosion agents.

Abstract: New 3,3-diphosphono-pimelic acid and its derivs. have the formula (I): (R2O3P)2C(CH2-CH2-COOR)2 (I) (where R, which are opt. identical, are opt. halogen-substd. 1-18C alkyl gps., H, alkali- or NH4 ions). In pref. (I), the alkyl gps. are 1-3x substd. by halogen, esp. Cl and/or Br; alkyl gps. contain 1-8C and alkali ions are Na and/or K ions. (I) where R are only opt. halogen-substd. alkyl are used as plasticisers for PVC and also impart flame-resistant or self-extinguishing properties. (I) where R are only H, alkali and/or NH4 ions are used as (i) retarders for gypsum setting and (ii) complex-formers for metal ions, e.g. Fe and alkaline earth metals. Plasticiser concn. in PVC may be 20-50wt.%. Gypsum setting retarders are superior to citric acid and are used in 0.06-0.09wt.% concn. The complex-formers can be used for cleaning glass articles, e.g., in bottle washing compsns. In an example, 3,3-diphosphono-pimelic acid was prepd. by (i) reacting 4 mol. Et acrylate with 2 mol. tetra-Et methane-diphosphonate and (ii) acidolysis of the hexa-Et ester obtd.
