Abstract: PURPOSE: To correct the mismatch of tracks when reading and writing elements, which are separated to a slider of a head.assembly, are included. CONSTITUTION: Offsets are fundamentally determined at first and second positions of an actuator.arm.assembly. Then, from these offsets, the constants and the multiplier are determined to set the offsets as a function of cylinder positions. Moreover, the method and the device are provided to make the movement distance minimum in order to prevent the mismatch while conducting a repositioning between the reading and writing elements. The reading element is intentionally offset from the writing element with an angle in which the movement distance across a disk is made minimum.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the demodulation of the digital servo signal of a disk file by identifying a servo burst timing window by a PRML data channel, accumulating plural detected digital samples, and processing it by a servo processor. CONSTITUTION: A signal from an R/W head is amplified by a preamplifier 52, and a read back signal including servo information and the data is extracted by a PRML channel 54, and transmitted to a hard disk controller(HC) 56. The HC 56, a bus IF 58 connected with a host adapter, and an IF processor 60 connected with the bus IF 58 are connected with each other, and an IF processor function is executed by the processor 60. Also, a servo processor 62 operates servo control by supplying servo positioning and motor control signals to VCM and spindle drivers 64 and 66. Moreover, a servo logic 68 inputs phase information to the processor 62 by information from the channel 54. Thus, the demodulation of a digital servo signal can be improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a system that cam write a servo-truck in a desired position on the rotation medium by using a laser beam to correctly decide the angular position o a rotary actuator. CONSTITUTION: A part of an output beam given from a laser 10 to an interferometer 12 is directed as a standard beam to a receiver by a beam splitter, and the remaining incident beam is caused to hit at an appropriate angle against the plane mirror reflection surface 14a integrally formed on an actuator arm 14, then it is reflected again on the plane mirror after being incident on a corner cube 16 positioned at the convergence position, and returned to the receiver air the interferometer. Herein, the interferometer and receiver decide the angular position of the actuator arm with respect to the standard position.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent the data loss due to a shock by buffering data on adjacent tracks before write and stopping the write based on discrimination of data damage on adjacent tracks due to the shock during write and restoring data after the halt due to the shock. CONSTITUTION: Before the start of the write operation meeting a request of a microprocessor 64 of a computer system 60, data on tracks adjacent to a target track of a designated disk is stored in a buffer 78 of a device controller 72 having a processor unit 76 to which a disk drive 79 is connected. If off-track due to a mechanical shock after the start of write is detected, the write of data is stopped, and it is discriminated whether data on adjacent tracks is damaged or not, and data on adjacent tracks is restored, based on data in the buffer 78 after the halt due to the shock. Thus, the data loss due to the mechanical shock is prevented.
