Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a computer system which changes a storage system to secure its more flexible operation in its working mode and in a power application mode. CONSTITUTION: A data processing system 105 has a memory 103 and a processing unit which offers a common pool of a physical storage. Then a storage area is initially assigned to a main storage or an extension storage in a power-on mode. Then the storage area that is assigned as a main or extension storage is not assigned and returned to the common pool. Thus, the storage area is assigned again as a main or extension storage. This second assignment of the storage area is dynamically carried out with no start of a resetting operation and also transmissive to an operating system and an optional starting application program.
