Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for adapting the polling period of suspended service requests.
SOLUTION: In this method, the polling period is adapted by polling a system to inspect the presence of suspended service requests, recording whether a suspended service request is present or not, determining whether the system device is in idle state or not on the basis of accumulated data. The system can select an energy saving mode until the device operation is reported by a signal, or an adjustable fixed time passed. By this adaptation mechanism, the period of timer interruption can be changed, the device interruption can be prohibited or permitted, and a variable (a minimum waiting time threshold, a minimum idling state threshold, etc.) used for determination of the idling state of the system can be changed. Accordingly, the system can save energy while keeping the performance and responsiveness of the system.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer usable program product for fast remote communication and computation between processors are provided in the preferred embodiments. A direct core to core communication unit (DCC) is configured to operate with a first processor, the first processor being a remote processor. A memory associated with the DCC receives a set of bytes, the set of bytes being sent from a second processor. An operation specified in the set of bytes is executed at the remote processor such that the operation is invoked without causing a software thread to execute.

Abstract: A data processing system for communicating over a network includes at least two network connection devices. The system selects one of the connection devices in response to a request for a network communication. The system may deactivate at least one of the connection devices not selected and initiate the requested network communication using the selected connection device. The system may select the optimal connection device for the particular communication based upon a set of parameters associated with each connection device. These parameters may include connection device's bandwidth, cost, and security. One or more of the parameter values for each connection devices may be negotiated with a service provider. The system may deactivate at least one of the connection devices by turning off all of the connection devices not selected for the network communication. The system may further turn off the selected connection device after the communication is terminated.
