Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for adding an LDAP protocol to a present directory assistance(DA) system. SOLUTION: This method for mapping a light weight directory access protocol(LDAP) interface to a directory assistance(DA) system comprises a first step for extracting an LDAP compatible retrieval argument for retrieving an LDAP database from an LDAP request, a second step for converting the LDAP compatible retrieval argument into a DA system database compatible retrieval argument, a third step for collating the DA system database by using the converted retrieval argument, and a fourth step for receiving the result set of a list from the DA system database in response to the collation, thereby converting the result set into the LDAP compatible result set.

Abstract: A method for imaging a LDAP-interface onto a directory assistance (DA-) system involves initially extracting the LDAP-compatible arguments from out of the LDAP- request or requirement, and then converting these arguments into search arguments which are compatible with the a data-bank of the DA-system. The data-bank of the DA-system is then polled with the converted search arguments, and as an answer to the polling or query is received a resultant quantity of the entries from the DA-system data bank, which is then converted into a LDAP-compatible resultant quantity. Independent claims are included for (1) a system for imaging a LDAP interface (2) a computer program for imaging a LDAP interface.
