Abstract: PURPOSE: To operate the hibernation and wake-up of plural working environments by a password while holding secrecy. CONSTITUTION: When a hibernation mode is obtained, which hibernation file hibernation data should be saved in is decided based on an identifier assigned to a present working environment (step 902). When a save operating is ended, the validity information of the hibernation file is updated, and a hibernation signature is set as necessary (step 908). At the time of wake-up, the list of the saved hibernation files is displayed, and the selection of the reproduced working environment is prompted to a user (step 913). When a password is set, the user is requested to input the password of the pertinent working environment (step 915).

Abstract: PURPOSE: To eliminate the need of generating the information of system constitution again when changed system constitution was adopted in the past even if the system constitution is changed. CONSTITUTION: In the case of newyly setting up information related to a system constitution in the data processing system having a nonvolatile memory 7 for storing the information of system constitution also after turning off a system power supply, the newly set information is stored in a prescribed area of the memory 7 and stored also in a 2nd non-volatile memory 9 such as a display storage device different from the memory 7 or an area other than the prescribed area of the memory 7. When a change in the system constitution is detected in a self-diagnosis or the like when the system power supply is turned on, whether information coincident with the information of current system constitution is stored in the memory 9 or an area other than the prescribed area of the memory 7 or not is retrieved, and when the coincident information is stored, the corresponding information is transferred to the prescribed area of the memory 7.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the power control method and device of a computer and the computer for preventing a user from being given any unnecessary uneasiness, and for suppressing the recurrence of any problem at the time of supplying power. SOLUTION: When a power source switch is depressed, its own diagnostic test (POST) is started, and when any error related with the initialization of an IC is not generated at the time of the test, an operating system OS is loaded so that an operating state can be obtained (steps 200-208). When any error is generated, whether or not the error is generated not less than the prescribed number of times is judged, and when the error is generated not less than the prescribed number of times, error display is operated, and then main processing is ended. When the error is not generated not less than the prescribed number of times, an error history is stored, and setting for stabilizing hardware is operated, and a restart signal being a signal for restarting the computer is transmitted, and then the main processing is ended (steps 210-220).
