Abstract:
An information processing system achieves power saving by reducing the operating frequency of a CPU, or completely halting the operation of the CPU, at appropriate times during asynchronous communication with peripheral devices. The information processing system comprises: (a) a CPU that is operated in a normal mode during which the CPU is driven at a relatively fast operating clock rate, and a power saving mode during which the operating clock has a lower rate or is halted; (b) at least one peripheral device; (c) a bus for performing communication between the CPU and the peripheral device; (d) termination detection means for detecting a completion of a predetermined transaction between the CPU and the peripheral device; (e) time counting means for measuring a predetermined period of time after the completion of the predetermined transaction; and (f) power saving control means for having the CPU enter the power saving mode until the time counted by the time counting means reaches the predetermined period of time.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program or the like which permits appropriate selection of a screen saver. SOLUTION: The program is used for making an information processor select the screen saver for displaying a predetermined image on a display device when no input is performed by a user for a predetermined period, and makes the information processor function as: a power source state detecting section 100 which detects the power source state indicating which of an AC power source and a battery is driving the information processor; and a screen saver selection section 150 which selects the screen saver to be operated on the information processor among a plurality of the screen savers in accordance with the state of the power source. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer apparatus, etc., capable of preventing an augmented device from a careless removal and enhancing ease of use of a PC (Personal Computer). SOLUTION: The computer apparatus is configured to make a user specify in advance an augmented device not to be removed among removable augmented devices. When the user displays a list to execute removal processing of the augmented devices, the specified augmented device is not displayed in the list. The computer apparatus is configured to execute a setting whether the specified device should be displayed in the list or not at a side of a BIOS (Basic Input Output System) and store the setting into an NVRAM (Non Volatile Random Access Memory) storing information referred by the BIOS.
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To set software environment which matches the hardware constitution of a data processing system automatically i.e., without operator's intervention even after the hardware constitution changes. CONSTITUTION: This system is provided with a means which previously holds system constitution definition data wherein what software environment should be set is described In the data processing system, makes the system constitution definition data contain the contents of the system constitution, i.e., the description of a condition statement making the contents of software environment different when the data processing system is initialized by referring to the system constitution definition data, and detects the hardware constitution of the data processing system when the data processing system is actuated or reset to process the condition statement according to the detection result.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To bring out a function of an information processor to improve the convenience of a user. SOLUTION: This support program supporting operation of the user of the information processor 10 makes the information processor 10 function as a detection means 200 detecting whether settings of input/output devices 40-70 of the information processor 10 are changed within a predetermined reference period or not, and a notification means 210 notifying the user of the effect that the settings of the input/output devices 40-70 are changeable when the settings of the input/output devices 40-70 are not changed within the reference period. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cause a DHCP server to suitably control IP addresses. SOLUTION: A device driver program 430 for controlling a computer which communicates with a device on a network using terminal identification information acquired from the server includes a means 432 for stopping operation of the computer, a means 436 for judging whether or not the stopping operation was started by the operation stopping means, and a means 438 for transmitting information indicative of end of use of the terminal identification information to the server when the judging means judges that the stopping operation was started. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method for a computer, a computer and a recording medium which make it possible to execute a process not defined by a standard when a system-specific event occurs. SOLUTION: When a computer system is in a suspend state and an ejection button of a docking station is pressed and detected, ACPI BIOS88 acknowledges it to an event service 92 and also sends a wake up request and an undock request to OS86. OS86 transfers a from the suspend state to an operating state, and executes a processing which allows removal of a PC from a docking station to permit undocking. The event service 92 sends a suspend request to S86. A kernel 82 makes conduct a transition from the operating state to the suspend state.
